Waiting for referral appointment

Hello everyone, came across this site by chance when doing the dreaded Google search of symptoms (wish I hadn’t!).

I found a lump just over a month ago, underneath my left breast. It feels a bit like a peach stone is slightly movable but definitely fixed to something and is hard not soft, no pain but my breast has increased in size and feels “full” like premenstrual full. I thought I’d leave it a full cycle to see if it was hormonal before I bothered the doctor, it didn’t dissappear, if anything it’s got slightly bigger. I honestly thought the GP would tell me its just breast tissue but he said there is definitely a lump and has referred me under the 2 week rule. I am only 28 and my only family member to have breast cancer was my great grandmother.

I am now anxiously waiting for my referral appointment.

Just before I noticed the lump I had been to the doctor as I had been feeling generally run down - had a cold/flu virus i was unable to shift for over 6 weeks, feeling very tired and also started sweating (and smelling) a lot worse than I had. They did a full range of bloods bur all came back normal - is this a good sign or irrelevant??

I have also had some nipple discharge on a couple of occasions.

The doctor had a funny look on his face when he examined me and he didn’t say “don’t worry, I think it’s nothing” but he also didn’t tell me to worry - which I’m guessing they don’t. I am trying to stay positive due to my age and lack of immediate family history but I can’t shake this “feeling” that there’s something sinister hiding in there. Would appreciate some honesty from people who have had similar symptoms/ can guide me a little better than the GP. Do you think I should be preparing myself or am I getting anxious over something that is probably nothing?

Hi Mumofone ,welcome to the site.Sorry you are having such an anxious time .Your G.P is not an expert when it comes to breast lumps when they are at all unsure what they are looking at they refer you to the clinic. You will find they are very honest and up front at the breast clinic and will usually tell you on the day what they think it is ,good or bad.Vast majority of referrals to the clinic turn out NOT to be breast cancer. If you read some of the other threads in this section you will see a large number of ladies who had a horrible anxious 2 weeks then had their minds put at rest .I very much hope you are one of them.If you are unlucky enough to be diagnosed there is lots of support and advice on this site and plenty of us who have been successfully treated for BC and are now getting on with our lives.Keeping everything crossed for you .Jill.
