Waiting for Reults but unsure of new symptoms

After being diagnosed in May last year, I had 2 lumpectomies and a fair few rounds of Radiotherapy which ended in Late December. I started taking Tamoxifen around the same time so been on it for around 6 weeks, and had 2 Zoladex injections (last one was a week ago)

I’m due to go to see my team next week for results of scans and tests to see if I am clear of cancer cells, but since last weekend (a couple of days after the scans) I’ve noticed new pain in my armpit and boob which aren’t in the site of where they took biopsies from last week.

What’s more concerning is I’ve noticed that I’ve had some Blood stained discharge and some clear discharge coming from my nipple. It’s not loads but I’ve noticed it in my bra and pyjamas. I’ve got no areas where it could be coming from, although my boob is still a little red from Radiotherapy, it’s not broken skin or anything like that.

Could it be a side effect of the tamoxifen? Of course I will get this checked when i see my team next week but it’s really worried me.

Hi jenp99,

Thanks for your post.

It’s understandable that you’re concerned about the pain you’ve been experiencing in your breast and armpit and the nipple discharge you’ve noticed since you had biopsies last week.

We can’t say what is causing these symptoms, but they may be related to the biopsies even though the pain is in a different site, especially if there is bruising or swelling. You may wish to contact your breast care nurse or treatment team to discuss this. They can assess you properly and advise on what might help. In the meantime, you may wish to consider taking simple pain killers such as paracetamol or ibuprofen (if you’re able to take it) to help with the pain.
