Waiting time for bone scan

Hello, I’ve just been referred for a nuclear bone scan to check for metastasis. Can anyone tell me how long they had to wait for one?

Thanks

This was not my experience across the board at my hospital, but for NM whole body bone scan they telephoned me and gave me a slot within the week. That was terrifying and you have an isotope injected and then have to wait a couple of hours before you can have the scan, though I was able to go to the cafe or garden. Was glad I had someone with me to support me for those couple of hours. Mine was fine so :crossed_fingers:and wish you all the best.

I waited 2 weeks for mine. As @Milly_Molly_1 said you have the stuff injected and then go away for a couple of hours so if possible do something nice during the break. I left the hospital and went for a walk and to a cafe with my husband. I got the results in a face to face appointment with the surgeon about 10 days later.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I’m glad your scan was ok.

I’ve waited 2 weeks for the referral because the doctor (registrar) took a week to organise the wrong scan (DEXA ) and it took another week for me to get through to GP who could sort it out and arrange the correct one. I was hoping it wouldn’t take another few weeks for the appointment to arrive as I’m obviously anxious to get it over and done with.
I suppose it will depend on where in the country we are really but needed to just ask the question and find out about other people’s experiences. Hope you go on ok x

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I hope your results were ok.

I’m anxious to get the appointment asap as I’ve waited 2 weeks for the referral to be made because of a mix up at my GP’s surgery. Hopefully it won’t be too long. :crossed_fingers:

All the best xx

Yes all clear on my results thanks.

So annoying about your referral being delayed. If you’ve not heard anything soon maybe contact your Breast Care Nurse and see if she can speed things up. I’ve found they’re good at that!

Good luck

Oh that’s good news.

Yes I’ll definitely try and hurry it along.

Take care x

Hi @celie1,

Thank you for posting. It is understandable that you are anxious to get your bone scan over and done with. Waiting for appointments and results can be a stressful and difficult time for many people.

As @Milly_Molly_1 and @pat describe, waiting times for scans can vary from place to place. It may help to contact your breast care nurse to follow up the scan as @pat suggests.
