waiting waiting

Hi ihad a mammogram on he 15 july and then on the 17 july i recived aletter to attend an ultra and biopsy on the 30 july, what a long wait for the results which i got on the 11 aug confirming BC-DC,we felt like we had been hit by a 50ton truck which we didnt see coming. The wait for my op on the 6 sept was hurendous.Home now very sore and lots of swelling under my arm feeling abit down. They say they caught it really early but until the results on the 22sept we dont know.We had a hoilday of alife time booked for my 50th ,had to cancel as it clashes with my RADS.

Hi Karen
Can completly understand where you are coming from. I cried on the way into surgery because all I could think was that I was supposed to be lying on a sunbed in Cyprus not on a bed going for surgery. Like you I was sore and swollen after surgery especially at the 7-14 day point, it felt like I had a tennis ball in my armpit. I found it helped to wear cropped tops with the “secret support” to sleep in and sleep with a pillow under that arm so that my shoulder was not resting directly on the bed. It seems like it will be forever before you feel normal again but I had my op on 23rd July and by end of August was sleeping normally though still with the crop tops to keep things steady during the night.
Hope the results due are good and here’s hoping that soon, like me you are now planning what to rebook with the insurance money,
Ali.

Hi Karen,
Sorry you’re struggling at the moment. I’m nearly four weeks post op and my arm is finally feeling much better. Much more comfortable for sleeping and the swelling has gone down almost completely. The exercises definately help and most of my movement has returned now. So hang on in there, it just needs time to heal. Waiting for the results is the hardest time, but once you know what you’re dealing with you’ll feel much better. My friend told me to be kind to myself and it’s true. I felt that I should try to carry on as normal and be brave. But allow yourself time, plenty of rest and allow your family and friends to knock themselves out to help and cheer you up. We will get through this. Thinking of you. x

Hi, Went to the hospital on friday to get my arm looked at, I had a lot of swelling under my arm and I had picked up an infection. The MK Hospital have been brilliant, I can call whenever I have any concerns or I am not sure about anything and they tell me to pop in and they will have a look at it for me.

Whilst I was there on friday the BC nurse told me that my results were there, I was not expecting them till Wednesday 22nd. She made my weekend, the tests showed no cancer cells in the lymph nodes or in the margin taken from around the lump in my breast. I still have to go for RAD.There is hope out there for us all.

Hi Karen, i to go to MK hospital, i can’t fault them, i had a WLE and lymph node removal at the end of March, as i had 2 nodes involved and i am 45 i was offered 6 FEC chemo and 20 rads then Arimidex.
I have completed my chemo and have had three rads this week, i had next to no probs with the chemo, alothough i needed to inject myself for 8 days after each cycle as i had a low white blood count, but even that was no big deal. The Mk mcmillan staff were great, they are very efficient, i hardly ever had to wait around for my treatment, which i was really suprised about, and if i had any problems after each cycle, the staff were really helpful.
The only problem we have , like many others is that MK hospital does not do rads so we have to travel to Northampton hospital 5 days a week for a month, what a pain, the parking is horrendous, but once there the staff are really helpful.
Hope all goes well for you, take care Sandrae x
