Waiting

Hi everyone
I am due to have a mastectomy on the 3rd March …the surgeon has said that he is hopeful that the surgery will be enough and that the lymph glands appear clear but obviously won’t know that until after surgery …but sat here waiting I am feeling like everything is spreading, infecting my lymph glands and cursing round my body …the surgeon says it doesn’t work like that but surely at some point it moves to the glands so why can’t that be today or tomorrow whilst I am sat here waiting …this really is a nightmare …wish I could wake up

Hi milly2806

It might be helpful to give our Helpline a call to talk about how you’re feeling at the moment.  They’ll be able to offer you information and support at this time.  The opening times are 9-5 on weekdays and 10-2 on Saturdays.  The number is 0808 800 6000

Very best wishes

HiMilly, sorry you have joined the club and are going through all of this, I was diagnosed on 3/12 and operated on 5/1 so had a month to wait so can understand how you are feeling but try and trust what your surgeon has told you, they are experienced and then once you have had the operation you can focus on getting strong and dealing with the next stages. The waiting is so hard though and I do understand how you must be feeling, even though that does not make it any easier. This forum has been brilliant though, try and avoid Dr Google and take care of yourself in the build up. And use the forum to ask questions/have a rant, there is always someone at the end of a post to help…love and hugs x x x x

Hi Milly

I had seven weeks between diagnosis and surgery (had lots of biopsies, MRI, more biopsies, Christmas got in the way etc) and my axillary lymph nodes had been swollen for months by then so like you I fretted about whether it had spread - I think that most people in our position would.  However, my doctors were right and it hadn’t so I think you trust them.

xx
