Hi,havent posted on here for rather a long time, just wondered if anyone has done or is doing weekly taxol&herceptin.Im just about to start and im feeling a little nervous about what lies ahead for the next six months even though this will be my 4th lot of chemo in four years. Thanks x
Hi angelgirl,
really sorry to hear you have to have yet more treatment…
I had weekly taxol and herceptin for 12 weeks for my primary cancer, so not exactlyy same situation, but I hope my experience helps:
I found it a lot easier than FEC that I had immediately after, apart from losing my hair (which was at the time the worst side effect), I had fragile nails and very dry skin, induced menopause (which you get on most chemos anyway).
On the day of the treatment I’d be very sleepy as a result of massive doses of antihistamines which were given before herceptin, so I’d have a sleep for the rest of the day. Towards the end (last 3 weeks), I’d started feeling tired the following day as well, but until then I managed to live a pretty normal life (chemo days excluded of course).
One of the worse things was having needles inserted in my arms every week, and my veins are still suffering now I’m having herceptin every 3 weeks.
Obviously everyone is different but my oncologists always told me that it was veryy well tolerated compared to FEC.
I wish you the best of luck,
Chiara
Hi, I had weekly Taxol and Herceptin last year for 16 weeks for a regional recurrence and tolerated it well. I had treatment on a Tuesday and would feel very tired on Thursday but would feel well again by Saturday. I found it to be my easiest treatment ( had previously had EC and Taxotere and now having Cisplatin and 5FU.) I hope you find it to be the same for you.
Best wishes, Gemini.
