Hi, dose steroids put weight on you. When i got weight i was the same.

I started chemo in June - take steroids for the first 3 days. I have eaten much more than I normally do and taken far less exercise. Total weight gain in 3 months has been 4lbs which I should be able to shake off when I feel up to doing more.
40lbs for me. Not worked for 7 months either, so that’s not helped.
I can’t understand how most people seem to put on weight during chemotherapy - I lost at least 2 stone from all the stress - was running on adrenaline all the time. Trust me, being too thin is much worse than putting on weight.
7k for me and it wasn’t that i was eating any extra. Still cant budge it.
Hi all I’ve put on over a stone since may I’ve fin now but no sign of getting rid of it think it depends on chemo last time I had chemo lost weight any tips on shifting it be great
I’ve put on over a stone too and so far I can’t shift it and it’s really getting to me. None of my clothes fit properly and I just feel uncomfortable. It’s so depressing.
I didn’t put much weight on during fec chemo because I was sick all the time but once it changed to tax I put on a stone, then put on more when I started tamox about another 6 pounds, started walking my dog every day and have lost a stone but can’t shift that last 6 pounds, its all around my middle area , no waist anymore lol
Thank you ladies, lucky my friend down who like walking that keeping my weight right.

The initial question about steriods was, how does steriods put weight on you? The answer is that it increases the appetite (hence we eat more), in addition to the desired effect, reduce risk of allergic reaction and reduce swelling.
During chemo I lost 1/2 stone due to chemo, poor appetite - all despite steroids. Since I finished chemo in Feb I have put it all back on and almost another 1/2 stone! I have enjoyed so much being able to taste and enjoy my food! I have been enjoying cakes which I know add on the pounds! I also have not picked up on exercise as I used to do, however I am back at work and think I am doing quite well. I think for me, the reality is I need to cut back on the cakes and lattes! And get back to some gentle exercise. However, to you all (and me), remember we have been through a tough time and deserve a wee treat now and again. What I need to now do is get sensible with it! Good luck all. J.
When I have high doses of steroids as in the first few days of a chemo cycle (have also been on moderately high doses for a lot of the last few years for a lung problem) I have times, particularly in the evenings when it feels as if there is a raging beast inside me that has to be fed.
Have always had to fight the flab but never had this pacing the house in the evening looking for stuff before. Helped by not having too much in the way of temptation in the house, OK for me as OH doesn’t like the sweet stuff, but difficult for people with kids.
Only consolation I can offer is that I have been able to reduce in weight while still on steroids by walking regularly doing faster and slower walking called interval training (again difficult with ropey lungs but…) and being careful with food. So it is possible if difficult. Just when doing well with that, along came a recall letter. Sigh. And then when I finished chemo they put my lung steroid dose up again. Sigh again.
So I am back to trying to get rid of the horrible flab and it is just not happening fast enough. But the ravening beast inside is a little less demanding now.
