Weight gain

Hi , everone ,

Just a thought , looking at hormone treatments one of the side effects seems to be weight gain, which for estrogen pos cancers is not a good thing . I may be wrong  but extra weight  produces  eostrogen which feeds the cancers, so why are we not given weight reducing drugs at the same time  , just puzzles me .

People talk about weight gain on tamoxifen, but I lost weight through slimming world before being diagnosed and I have managed to stay within about 6lbs of my target though I do yo yo a bit!! It is a constant effort though! Exercise really helps! Xx

I have been taking Anastrozole for only 4 weeks, and have put on over half a stone in weight, even though I am counting calories.  I am so down about it.  I am not sure what to do about it.  I am only 5’2 and now weigh 10 stone 8lbs, so I look really blotted.

Hi Ali,
Weight gain on tamox is not inevitable. I did make a conscious effort to increase my activity levels & I eat healthily anyway. I now feel fitter than I did before diagnosis. Going through this, certainly concentrates the mind!

I started Tamoxifen in Feb and put weight on immediately particularly across my stomach - i joined slimming world and since May have lost 2 stone so it’s definitely not a problem weight gain issue if you nip it in the bud as soon as you realise
