well woman plus
well woman plus just wanted some advice on an insurance policy - and to see if anyone else has been involved with the company.
i received a tel call asking if i wanted to take out a policy to cover “female cancers” from well woman plus (its from american life and i believe Gaby Roslin advertises it on TV)… when i told them my diagnosis, they said i could still take the policy out as long as it was 3 years after diagnosis (which for me is 17.03.07). i would then be covered just like anyone else who had never had the illness, and if i am lucky enough to not claim, then in 20 years time i would get all the money back, tax free.
now, my main question to them involved reoccurence - they said if the cancer came back in for example the lungs etc - i would not be covered - but i am sure my onc told me once that these sorts of cancers are actually from breast cancer cells ansd so are linked to the original cancer. - in other words they are from a “female cancer”.
i asked the rep this and he said if the onc would confirm that the diag was a female cancer then i would receive benefits, but if not, i wouldnt.
i suppose i just wondered if anyone had some input re this policy or perhaps first hand experience - good or bad.
before diag i was going to take out this sort of policy and didnt (you know - it wont happen to me scenario) and then obviously wished i had!
look forward to any comments.
Thanks, Carol
american life Hi Carol,
I took out the same policy 4years ago after i,d had a problem with breast cysts. i was diagnoised in Mar 06 with BC so claimed on my policy i had no problems once America Life had all the relevent details (confirmation of BC) they paid out my lump sum and have been topping up my monthly income for the past year . It has been a Godsend as it relived the pressure of alow income whilst recovering from my treatment.
Hope that helps
Carole
my husbands company had a rep in from american life about this policy and one for male cancers. when we queried the female cancer one was told that as i have already had a bc diagnosis if i got it in the other breast it didnt count as a new diagnosis but a secondary and would not be eligible.
thank you thanks for your comments - still have a lot to think about!!
Carol
