I am B pos. Thought i was healthy and following all the life style that should have minimalised my getting cancer by about 2000% !!! didnt work. Personley i think its just the look of the draw.

Hi
I am blood group A, had both my children under 25 breast fed both for minmum of 6 months. I would consider myself as overweight but not obese. I am large chested. There is no one in my family past or present who have had Breast Cancer. I am not a big meat eater ! I used to eat loads of the cancer beating foods as this is my worst nightmare! SO I must agree with some I think that it is a lottery!

Blood group O, I agree it’s a lottery.

I’m AB Positive!

Hi there,

I’m an A positive. 5 years ago I became vege and included much more soya into my diet. I am 39, eat well (mostly organic too), run, cycle, pilates, don’t smoke and only have 1-2 glasses of wine a week. I’m not overweight, and small breasted. Last October I found a lump - Grade 1, lymph nodes clear, HR positive. So I dropped the Soya products and started eating meat again (it was a turkey sandwich over Christmas that did it!). My oncologist said that my tumour had probably been growing for the last 5 years. The only thing that had changed in my life during that time, was becoming vege and eating more Soya. However, I do think it is a luck of the draw really.

Hi,
I’m A pos.

I hadn’t heard of a link between blood groups and cancers before but I looked online this morning and found a number of papers published on the subject including one from 2005 from the Department of Human Genetics, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, India, which did find a higher representation of blood group A among breast cancer patients compared with a control group. Other blood groups seemed to be more susceptible to other types of cancer.

I think the idea of following a diet based on your blood group is odd to say the least. For the record I’ve been vegetarian for almost thirty years so it doesn’t seem to have protected me!

Score so far…

Apologies if I’ve miscounted but I think the tally so far is

A rh pos or neg 12
B rh pos or neg 4
AB rh pos or neg 2
O rh pos or neg 2
Unknown/undisclosed 3

Thank you to all of you who have commented. I know the idea does seem to be rather off the wall but thanks to Julie49 for doing the tally. Quite interesting results really - although not a very scientific way i guess. Bet my consultant would laugh me out the room!!!

Hi anniversary,
Hope your trip to the hospital wasn’t too bad. Good luck with your recovery,
Julie

Julie49 has contributed the most valid points on this thread by quoting the papers she has found on the subject. If there is anything to be found re: blood types, there will be probably be clinical research to back it up.

Diagnosed stage 4
Smoked a bit
Drunk alot
Had children at 40+, breast fed them
Worked outdoors for years (vit D supposed to lessen bc chance - according to this weeks Times newspaper)
Vegetarian for nearly 30 years
Can’t remember which blood group (ex donor - they don’t want it anymore!)
Ho hum…

Jenny.

AB positive, diagnosed stage 1 twice, non-smoker, enjoy white wine, vegetarian, breast fed 2 children, was on the Pill for few years and HRT. No idea what causes the cells to go crazy but wish they would come up with an answer, if not for us but for our children and grandchildren.

O positive. Drinker. Gym goer, Mixed diet. No kids, HRT post hysterectomy/oopeherectomy for2.5 years (but tumour hormone negative but HER+)

I just think it is a lottery. I am not going to beat myself up about what I should or shouldn’t have done. I have enough on my plate to deal with without being guity about my past life - a waste of breath

AB negative. dx in 1993, non smoker not really a drinker, mother had BC and so did one of her sisters. Both came originally from Greece.(both married soldiers after the war) Neither of the sister who remained in Greece had BC so maybe diet has something to do with it. Mum died of unrelated disease and her sister is still around after 15years.(now aged 83) Unfortunately I was dx with mets in hip last year but had 13 years in remission.

I have not seen info on Gp A being related to BC but have read where it is common amongst stomach cancer patients.Have to agree with some of the others, no one really knows what causes it, I often wonder if the stress of my parents dying within two years of each other was a contributing factor who know
