I am 44, fairly strong family history of breast cancer. (Maternal grandmotehr died of breast cancer at 49, 2 great aunts had breast cancer, my mum had multiple benign lumps removed) I found a lump 2 weeks ago in my left breast - had a dull ache to the breast when I took the time to pay attention tp myself. I went to the GP and have been seen at the breast clinic last week. When I was examined the doctor found a different lump to the one I went with (instantly increased my anxiety levels). I had a mammogram and an ultrasound. During the ultrasound the Radiologist said that the one I felt was an enlarged lymph node on my chest wall, but she couldn’t find the second lump. She gave a very thorough exam. As I was leaving the room she was looking at the mammogram. she sent me for a repeat one and asked them to zoom in on the area with the lump.
The radiographer said it was because this area didn’t look the same as the other breast. My appointment finished back with the Doc who said there was nothing to worry about but that she would like to do a core biopsy just to be absolutely sure.
At the appointment I felt reassured but since then I have become more and more anxious about what this could be. What could it be that can be felt but not show on either ultrasound or mammogram? Is the enlarged gland related or just a coincidence? Anyone had a similar experience?
Going out of my mind waiting for the results!
