What is the most useful thing you've bought ?

For me it’s my back-scratcher, £2.99 from Betterware.
An itchy back & no fingernails for a person who lives alone is just the pits !!
What could all of you not do/have done without ?

Hi Diwy - if I was putting a goodybag together I’d put in a Dab radio and headphones for those nocturnal hours that we all share. They have stopped me wriggling about in bed which has aided healing and allows OH to sleep - and stopped me listening to his snoring .Radio 4 and the World Service really has kept me sane … and continues to do so.

Hi,
I have put relaxation recordings on an MP3 player. Invaluable for the wee small hours when I can’t sleep. I have put on it some relaxation recordings by Breast Cancer Haven charity and 2 Paul McKenna CDs, also a Deep Sleep CD and a CD of Buddhist chanting. It has helped me to relax and not to disturb OH.

my laptop… so i can stay in touch with the peeps on here and facebook.

Mine has to be my iPhone!

I got it just after my diagnosis & it has seen me through my mx, chemo & the rads waiting room & kept me sane when I was neutropenic & in a wee side room all alone!

It allowed me to keep in touch with the outside world…ie Facebook & the Forums LOL…and it’s great for playing games in the middle of the night when I just can’t sleep…Bookworm & Fling are my favs!

what an interesting thread - thanks Diwy
mine’s my velvet bakerboy hat that saw me through a long cold bald winter. Its gone now - washed and donated for someone else to use.

Hi H; bookworm is my favourite as well, but have recently been addicted to popmaster on facebook, trying to beat my own score lol.

Other than that i couldnt do without my mp3 player especially if i cant sleep just lie there listening to my music, usually fall asleep though!

I agree with loads of you - I had a birthday pressie just after diagnosis 18 months ago of a digital radio and haven’t looked back since - even though I have the all clear. It’s good to hear a friendly voice in the middle of a wretched night - which I still have! Does sleeplessness carry on now even though all treatment over? Guess it could be the Tamoxifen? Anyone know? x

I agree with Hayz - my iPhone has been my saving grace. Can read the forums, play games, search the Internet, google maps to
hospitals, listen to music the lot - love it.

Hi Divvy

I like this post. Reckon I might have to get a back-scratcher too! Struggle to stretch my arm over on my Mx side due to painful shoulder, though me son has come in handy on occasions even with his minimal nails though he tries, bless him.

My blackberry definitely came in handy though cos checked me emails on phone, though at time of purchase did wonder if It was a wise buy but found it certainly was.

Back Scratcher –spaghetti spoon!

V shaped pillow.

Audio books – when the disc finishes switch to radio – saves disturbing other half searching for the next disc.

I started listening to audio books two or three years ago. Diagnosed in 2006.

I now find I cannot sleep without headphones on and listening to something, wake up and put them on again in the middle of the night.

Love and take care

An extra long 3m attachment for my earphones so I don’t strangle myself in the middle of the night when listening to R4/World Service.

Oh yes Audio books and digital radio…I now cannot sleep without the radio on.

Hi,

My most useful purchase has been my iPhone. For all the same reasons listed by other people. Even when under the covers and unable to get out of bed I was able to keep up with the world, stay in touch with friends and use the Internet. I couldn’t live without it now.

Hi
Like Carol, for me it has to be our dog. I’ve had a dog virtually all my life and find it far to quiet without one. We’re on to dog number 4 and each one has had a different personality. They get you out when you feel lousy, always accept you as you are and don’t have tantrums,or sulk when they get shouted at.
LOL

msmolly - I get through the night listening to R4 World Service too - but I always seem to wake up in the middle of a report on some horrific torture somewhere! I wish they could have some happier news sometimes.

Hi Thistle

Never thought of the spaghetti spoon, but pre-back-scratcher thought I’d finally found a use for my redundant comb. However I can now reach the parts it doesn’t reach.

Going to try having radio on to see if it helps sleep. No-one for me to disturb so won’t need ear phones ( just so long as I don’t play meatloaf loud enough to annoy the neighbours)
