Hi avonlea
I’ve just started my chemo 2 days ago and the same question was worrying me. There is lots of info on this forum. I asked in boots, they recommended Simple ones. A friend got me a special coconut-based soap for hair from Lush - they explained to her that it’s good during chemo, haven’t tried yet, will write about the results - if i have any hair left that is:)
when are you starting? I’ve got headscarves but no wig yet, still waiting to see because i’m trying the cold cap and have too much think hair,
Take care,
Tato
Barefoot botanicals SOS Hair & Scalp Rescue Shampoo (and the conditioner)
It’s expensive but it’s got things like rosemary oils in it that stimulate the scalp, my hair started growing back just before my last FEC and it’s feeling great.
When I was completely shiny head I was using vitamin E oil to keep the scalp in good condition… seems to have worked a treat now just waiting for the growth to pick up speed, my heads cold.
I was ok when having chemo, but now that I’m on herceptin and hormone treatment (am on a chemo break at the moment), I’ve found my scalp is itching like crazy. Have decided to give baby shampoo a try. Think in part it’s because my hair is growing back very quickly (I lost most of it during chemo, and really should have shaved off the few remaining strands!). As suggested, imagine that the simpler, less perfumed shampoos the better-or like me,maybe try the baby ones.
I was recommended Simple products by my doctors and nurses ,and i found that worked, also it is not expensive to buy.
I use Avalon Organics or Tisserand - nice and gentle and natural. Simple is good, too, especially for facial wipes. Was just given a gift of Clarins hand cream and bath/shower gel - not sure how they’ll go but can always save them until after chemo’s finished.
