Hi Laura

You get a sick note because you are not fit for work not just when you are having chemo! You need to go and see your GP and get a new one. You shouldn’t have a problem getting one! As to getting paid off from work can’t help there sorry. But get to docotrs and get that sick note for work.

Hello there Laura,

Does your firm have an occupational health nurse service, cos they should be able to advise you. I would think that if you aren’t going to be able to return to your present job, could they either offer you another job, or amend your job role in order that you have help with the physical parts of it that would be too difficult for you now. You’re entitled to ths latter in line with the Equality Act, as a cancer diagnosis automatically classes us as a person with a disability job-wise, education-wise, etc. If they can’t amend your job to make it less physically demanding, maybe there’s a possibility of you “retiring on ill-health grounds”.

I’m not an expert on these matters, and haven’t been in that situation myself, so these are just suggestions, but take care of yourself, and I hope that at least some of my suggestions give you a few ideas!

With much love,
Shelley xxx

Thanks I know he will give me a sick note for a while but will he give me one all the time never been off long term

Sorry Laura, I’ve not been in this situation so don’t know. But, you’re going to need recovery time after the chemo, so you’ll carry on getting the sick notes to hand into work for now.

Your doctor should be able to give you more info re this when you next see them - sorry I can’t be more help to you here.

Take care, and please let us know how you go on!

Love, Shelley xx

Your gp will be advised by you and can give you a sick note for as long as you feel you need or a fit for work note with amended duties and reduced hours … again your gp will be advised by you. Mine gave me a sick note for a month at a time … then a fit for work note with amended duties for two months…

Hi after returning to work (admittedly earlier than my GP wanted me to ) I found that after several weeks of working F/T and struggling with pain and s/e I got another note of Fitness to work from GP. Unfortunately this was ignored for a month and only now am I getting a few days of shortened hours ie. leave at 3 /4pm rather than 5pm on 2 days per week.
Be aware that your employer does not have to agree to the amended hours, wishing you all the best. J xx
