what to expect after surgery

Hi, I am 70years old and have had good health until now so my experience of hospitals is very limited. I have to have sentinel lobe biopsy followed by WLE and radiotherapy for 5 1/2 weeks. Can any one who has had similar tell me how you felt after surgery as I am starting to get nervy about the whole thing. My op is on the 23rd Sept.

I had WLE and some nodes removed. It wasn’t that bad actaully. I didn’t feel any pain at all, but whent he drains are in, it was just a bit uncomfortable sitting up for the first couple of days. It’s a good idea in the mornings to try stay sitting up in bed rather than laying back down again as once you’re up, you can move around with relative ease. Once the drains are out, you’ll feel so much better as well and on the road to recovery. Adoch - do take a little neck pillow to hospital with you if you have one. It means you can sit up in bed and have a little dose in comfort. I found mine a little godsend. x x

Best wishes Adoch,I hope your op goes well and you find it easier than expected.

My dad had a heart bypass at 83 and he was out of hospital within 5 days having walked up two flights of stairs. Breast surgery is a lot less extensive.

By the by my dad is alive still at 87 - and he now has prostate cancer as well as a long term history of high blood pressure and heart disease

he’s 88 on Nov 7

Hi Adoch.I had biopsy,WLE,Radiotherapy for 3wks.Must admit I have been fine,I didn’t have any drains They took 6nodes and all were clear. Was in hospital for 36hrs.
Only took pain killers for a few days,Co codamol,Must admit they did cause constipation,so recomend plenty of fibre fruit veg and drink plenty of water,It not only helps with constipaton but also gets rid of the blue dye they put in.
Was driving a few days later.also was eating and drinking a few hours later.have known quite a few who have been out the same day, that is mostly those who don’t have drains.
It does all sound worse than it is,Mine was grade 1 also got to take arimidex for 5yrs.

Hope everything goes ok for you,I’m sure you will be fine, please let us know.

Hi
I had WLE and 6 nodes removed at 3.30 and was out of hospital by 11.00 the next morning, no drains and full arm movement. I have an appointment tomorrow for my tatoo then will have 15 sessions of rads over 3 weeks.

All the best

Hi, all went well with the op, I was home after 24 hours , the only problem I have had was the amount of painkillers I was given which made me sick , however my GP has sorted that out and I should be fine now. The staff at the hospital were lovely and were very reassuring. I am just taking a lot of rest, thanks for all good wishes
