Hi all
Have a planning session tomorrow for my radiotherapy. I’m not sure what underwear to wear. I think I read here somewhere that someone got their bra cut.
I have some lovely non wired underwear which I hunted high and low to get and don’t want it ruined - also have some ‘basic’ primark pull over tops.
Now I know it’s not a beauty parade - oh to be so vain, but I’d hate to get some decent stuff ruined.
Also not really sure how it works - does it take long to do measuring, does it hurt (big chicken that I am) also do I need to ask any questions.
Thanks ladies - feel proud of myself that I’ve coped with the chemo and now ready to move to the next stage of recovery from this thing.
I wore a crop vest top as I was still swollen after sugery (WLE). Underwear was irrelevant as I had to put on a hospital smock that cleverly unpops down the front and shoulders so only as much as necessary was exposed to all and sundry.
I just wore my usual bras (underwired) when I went for my planning and treatment. Wished I hadn’t now as they all have felt pen marks on them that will not wash out. I would suggest wearing old bras (or buying cheap ones that you can throw away after) as no-one sees them anyway as you wear a gown for the treatment/planning.
I still can’t understand that bra cutting experience. I went last week, wearling the usual bra with temp insert. I took it off and they didn’t even seem interested in what underwear I had. You get a hospital gown, then obviously that opens up o they can get on with drawing on you etc.
No it doesn’t hurt a bit. It is quite a long time lying very still on your back with the affected arm over your head, so hope you have been doing your exercises! I tink t was around 30 minutes. I was dying to scratch but of course if you do mve I suppose they start all over again.
Dont think there are any important questions. The ladies who did me were great and talked me through everything they were doing, and warned me about the tattooes etc. All I am a bit puzzled about still is that I have to go back next week for “Verification” which I took to mean they will check the measurements again. At that point they set up the actual appointments so will know what is happening when.
Good luck with it. A breeze compared to chemo. At least the measuring session is!
Yours were a rotten lot! My ladies removed the felt tip marks for me before I got dressed again. Do they go for the felt tip again during the actual treatment then?
Yep, they draw on you again when you’re having the treatment (well they did with me), it was getting a bit like ‘dot to dot’ lol. I got the marks off with baby wipes when I got home and they said it would wash off my bras - they lied!
Hi Ladies,
I wore cropped tops or old T shirts under my shirt - didn’t need a bra as I’m an A cup! Was never offered a gown - just stripped to the waist - you feel a bit ‘exposed’ but i’m well used to that by now! I think it’s a good idea to use old T shirts or underwear as the marker dye and aqueous cream might stain pritty underwear - save that for afterwards.
hope all goes well - take a good book as there is a lot of hanging around in the waiting room
cheers
caroline
Whoa. Thanks for that. Didn’t realise they would draw again. Great tip my darling. Thank you! I have been wearing the nsame sports bras from Tesco and Tchibo since the mastectomy and have got quite fond of them!
Hi Caroline - always have a good book for the waiting period! How on earth does the aqueous cream stain I ask myself?
Glad I found this thread… I go for my radiotherapy planning appointments on Friday and hadn’t even thought about what underwear I should / shouldn’t wear. Now I’m well informed!! I think I’ll go for black and probably the vest tops that have support… they were the most comfy after surgery and easiest with the drains… and the felt-tip won’t mark them!!

Hi all
Had replied to this but it seems to have gone into the unknown.
Thanks for all the info. Am up tomorrow at 1.30. It’s about an hours drive so that will tire me out when I have to go for 5 weeks - 2 hours travelling on top on it all.
Thanks for all the tips - I knew I could rely on you all for the info I need. Good luck to all out there - hope treatment is going well.
Thanks again - Will look out the old cropped tops .
Hi all
Just thought I’d give an update on the planning session for anyone who has this ahead of them.
It went really well. Firstly met with consultant who was lovely. He gave me loads of opportunities to ask questions. Then he drew a few marks on my breast with a black marker. I had to hold my arms up in ‘stirrups’ but they gave me lots of time to move themto stop me getting sore
. Also, something I really appreciated, the nurse helped me up from the couch. This really was considerate as I’ve had a recon. from my tummy and my muscles are weak.
Next had a mini CT scan and my tattoos made. Tiny pinpricks on three places. Then home. In and out in 45 minutes. Lovely staff who were patient and respectful.
Thanks for the tip on the bras - wore my old ones and they did get inky.
Feel very upbeat now. Even managed a run into Debenhams who had 25% off yesterday - overall a very positive day.
Good luck to all out there. Lets hope this is all working !!
Just registered on the site - I have had a mastectomy and am going for radiotherapy planning this afternoon had no idea what to expect - you guys have really helped.
Hi
I think the ‘verification’ session is the first appointment where they just take images and make sure you’re lined up correctly. This is usually a 20 minute appointment and all being well with the images they start your rads the next day. It was just as well they do this as I had lost weight (ill after last chemo) between the planning and first rads session and was 2cm out so had to be re-scanned and marked up with second lot of tattoos!
