Hi @tinatin - have only had my implant since August last year (in one breast). There’s no denying it is different in shape from the other breast when naked but in all honesty I felt that as long as they looked pretty symmetrical with a bra on I’d be satisfied - and that is the case, I’m not big busted so was happy that I felt confident enough to wear a bikini on holiday without it looking too obvious that one breast has an implant. The implant seems to have become less visible over the last few months, or maybe I’ve just got more used to it. Wishing you all the best in whatever you decide to do.
Thanks @sunny2 for the response- I’m planning a double mastectomy because of the BRCA mutation and my surgeon also mentioned that it would be easier to achieve symmetry in this case. Good to hear that all is going well and it’s becoming less visible
Hi @tinatin I am also having a double due to Brca. I am sure your doctor has discussed all the issues around sizing etc. Mine will be over the muscle and my doctor told me that I can expect considerable rippling to begin with, but that this will be corrected with lipofîling. He also told me: don’t loose any more fat!! Music to my ears really… first time I’ve heard that since I was 12, it only took cancer
. Anyway, he also said that most of us have enough fat somewhere to do lipofîling. I saw pictures of other patients and after the lipofîling it looked pretty natural! Good luck!
Thank you for sharing your story. I’m really sorry you’re going through this, but it sounds like you’re being very proactive in understanding your options. I can only share from a personal family experience. My mother recently had DIEP flap surgery, and we went through the whole decision-making process quite carefully. We were in touch with the team at txdiepflap during that time while trying to understand whether flap reconstruction would be suitable for her situation. From what I’ve seen, both implant and DIEP flap reconstruction can work well, but it really depends on body type, available tissue, and personal lifestyle goals. In her case, the plastic surgeon consultation made a huge difference in clarifying what would realistically work best. Given your active lifestyle, I can understand why you’re thinking so much about recovery and getting back to fitness. I’ve also seen that many people only feel fully confident once they’ve had that detailed discussion with their reconstructive surgeon.
Thanks so much for coming back to me. This a bit of an old post, so I have had the surgery already and I am back to pretty much “normal” minus the nipples which I have not had done yet. In the end there was not enough tissue for DIEP, but I am happy with the implants. I have done a couple of races since the surgery and my new boobs have done quite well. I did take a fall 3 months after the surgery (not race related… stupid hotel architect related
) and my right left turned into a stone from the impact, but that was minor next to the cut open head and fractured hand (all that fine now too).
Anyway, hope your mom is doing great now.
All the best, A
