Hi All
Due to recent events with tamoxifen I am really fed up.
I was told in June 2006 at the end of my treatment that as my lump was small, nodes clear, no vascular invasion and clear margins that with chemo as well ( which I was told I probabaly didn’t need) there was virtually no chance anything was left. Never say never etc but nonetheless.
So my point is why do I have to take these vile hormone drugs for 5 more years?? My onc said hormones dont cause cancer they only feed certain tumours if they are there , so if they are not there then what is the bloody point!!!
Sorry - am hving a bad day but sometimes i just think all the side effects for such a minimal risk is a bit much. Maybe I am missing something??? . . …
LOve and luck to all
Alise x
Sorry you are having such a bad day. Must say I kind of wondered about the hormone treatment too but I’m at an early stage and am currently going with what they tell me is necessary. Also so far so good with the tamoxifen for me - I’m a tad warm at nights but other than that nothing different. Maybe if and when I start to get other side effects I will start to question the need for the medication.
Hi Alise
i think the point is they cant be certain its not there and for many people there may be a low level of cancer cells swishing around, that if you stay on the hormones for a certain time will never activate again, ie you are keeping things from being switched on again. (this kind of makes sense for me ) Obviously the problem is you don’t know if you are one of these women where the hormone therapies make all the difference, but if you take the tamoxifen you are throwing everything at the cancer and the possibility of recurrence,
take care

Hey chick.
Sounds like you are having a rough day.
The way I had it explained to me…was the hormone treatment basically starved any of the little swines of food, so that would do for me!
To be honest, I dont think anyone can say one way or another as to why it happens, it just does. Bit fatalistic I know, but thats the way I look at it. Stops those late night whys going round your head. Id rather have all the magic stuff that the clever blokes in laboratorys create, than have nothing at all…bit like whichever supermarket advert…every little helps
