I started Letrozole (Femara) the day after the biopsy results following my bilateral mastectomy. I did not need chemo or rads. About 6 weeks after I started taking it I had a bone density scan done as a marker. The results of that did not come back for another 3 months. Anyway it showed that I have osteoporosis. I am still taking the Letrozole but have now had added a weekly dose of alendronic acid and a daily calcichew.
When I was told at the start I would be having Letrozole I did ask at that point why not Tamoxifen which I knew my mother had taken for 5 years from 1992. I was told that Tamoxifen had been the standard treatment for many years but that Letrozole was now the gold standard treatment for post menopausal women.
I have not googled at all. I would probably just get myself confused so I am content to follow the advice I have been given by the experts and hope they know what they are doing.
