When does Chemo begin after surgery

Hi, I had a lumpectomy 2 weeks ago. The cancer hasn’t spread but as it was a grade 3 I’ve been told I’ll probably be recommended chemo and radiotherapy. Does anyone know what the time scale is after surgery? I’m waiting for a letter from the oncologist and to be quite honest am getting really stressed as I just want to start my treatment as soon as I can. I know I am extremely fortunate in that the cancer was contained but I’m not good at not being in control!

I had my op 30th Sept, results 2 weeks later 14th Oct and started chemo 18th Oct. I don’t think they will keep you waiting too long.x

I had WLE and therapeutic mammoplasty on 16 Jan together with sentinel lymph node biopsy. Luckily all clear but be ause of size 3.5cm my age type etc hd to have chemo. I had oncolorist appt on 15 Feb and started chemo 2 weeks later about 6 weeks after initial surgery. Second one due next week and so far doable.

I would think you should hear within the next week, if not chase through BCN.

Good luck

It’s normally 4-6 weeks - they do like to give you a bit of time to heal first.

Good luck

I hate to be the bearer of bad news Bettie, had surgery 19th Jan, saw oncologist 6th March and am still waiting for date to start chemo!! I have contacted the oncology unit several times now and have been told I will have to wait for a slot!! I am finding it really hard. looking at most posts on here I appear to be in the minority!! I really hope you hear soon Bettie, if not I would ring your BCN or oncology unit.
Best wishes

NICE guidelines say it should be within one month of surgery.

I was 3 weeks ago wle and anc… X

Hi Bettie,
I also had a Grade 3 but Stage 1 tumour. I was due to begin chemo 6 weeks after surgery but it was delayed about 6 weeks for me to have fertility treatment. The impression i was given is that 4-6 weeks post op is normal.
Hope all goes well.
