When to appy creams

Hi, I had my single mastectomy on the 3rd December and it is still a bit scabby but looks quite good, I was just wondering when should I start using product on to help with the scarring, I was going to leave it until there was no scabs but looking at the forums it seems ladies have been putting stuff on from 2 weeks? Any advice would be great, thanks

Hi ariella,

Thanks for posting.

It’s good to read that your scar is healing well after your recent operation. You may find it helpful to read our information about caring for scars. As you will read massaging moisturiser into the scar will keep it from becoming dry and helps to make the area more supple. There is no specific product that is needed, but you may prefer to use an unscented and gentle type of moisturiser. You may find it helpful to watch our Facebook Live video about scars.

It sounds as though apart from some scabbing the area has healed, so applying a product now should be fine. If you are in any doubt do contact your breast care nurse for advice.
