Hello ladies,
I’m afraid my impatience is growing; but that seems to be the only thing!
I finished chemo 6 weeks ago & so far only have random little patches of fluff on my head, it’s still about 95% scalp. Still no sign at all of brows or lashes either. Am I being optimistic even thinking I would be on my way to hairiness again by now?!! I remember seeing a pick of Kylie & at 10 weeks post-chemo she had enough proper hair to cover her head.
I suppose I’d be glad to hear any stories of when your hair started to come back & how long the whole affair took?
Thanks lovely ladies,
J
Hiya I just thought I would answer as I felt like you - impatient for hair to come back. I finished chemo in September last year and by Christmas I had a thin covering. It really takes as long as it takes I’m afraid as a lot of my contemporaries had thick hair by then. My eyelashes came back about 3 months after chemo and eyebrows still quite patchy. I now have total covering but it is not very long but growing all the time. Don’t worry it will happen but I know how you feel as I was desperate to get back to looking normal. xx
Hi Janeypie…I am sure we all have different experiences to share about hair (or lack of it!) but as jayney234 says ‘it takes as long as it takes’ and probably depends on individual circumstances. I finished FEC-T chemo in July 2012, felt confident to go ‘hatless’ in November 2012 (me and my wig never got on!!) although hair was very short and sparse. 20 months and 3 hair trims later it is chin length but very thin (on anastrozole). Eyelashes returned, albeit very short ones, after about 6 months; however I still have only very, very few fine, blonde eyebrows. Have just discovered ‘beautiful brows’ as patience finally ran out! Using a good quality shampoo/conditioner/thickener e.g. ojon or argan oil helps I think…it has for me. Only good thing is that I had pretty much salt and pepper curly hair pre-chemo and it has grown back really quite brown and straight…looks like chemo killed all the grey
Hope that yours will soon grow thick and fast…take care x
Thank you ladies.
I suppose I have been a little on the impatient side… I’m sure you understand that as soon as you start to feel vaguely like yourself again, you’re desperate to look like yourself too. I’d been hopeful for a little '90’s bob by Christmas, but I suppose I’ll have to wait & see! It is super to hear other real life stories rather than medical notes on what “should” happen though!
I shall continue slathering my scalp in FAST shampoo & olive oil anyway…!
Thank you again.
Jxo
iya Janiepie, I finished chemo in September last year and had a slightcovering by christmas but not enough to go without the wig. I began going without in Febuary this year. Since then I have had two haircuts. I used to alternate rubbing olive oil (from chemist) and Johoba oil into my scalp every night. This seemed to do the trick. Losing my hair was one of the worst part of all this but be patient it will come back. Mine was straight but has come back curly and I love it.
Best of luck
