white blood count 0.5 day 10 !!!!!!!!!

Just been advised not to go away as bloods have dropped to 0.5 day ten any advise greatly recived .

This is my third cycle but I am normaly given the injections to boost my immune system but because they make me so ill the onc said I could try this cycle with out them , now wishing I would have but up with the side effects !!!

Holiday is by the sea side on quite a big haven site so loads of people about …

kids so looking forward to there hol not sure if I should risk it ???

Lisa when I was admitted mine was 0.3 and I needed the gcsf injection you mentioned and I think they said anything lower than 0.5 needed treating - I had a temp too though and needed i/v antibiotics. I think they also said it would be at its lowest on day 14 so yours might drop lower? The whole thing is when the count is low you are more prone to picking up whatever is about so its a gamble…I know its so frustrating - my son said to me the other day we don’t do anything any more…its hard but your health is the main thing - I didn’t actually feel ill or anything when they admitted me but when I came out 2 days later I felt better than I had for a couple of weeks…mary x
ps sorry its not much help just wanted to say I know what you mean xx

If you have been advised not to go away, dont go! I have been having the injections since my second chemo (had my 8th and final last week I hope) for the same thing was admitted to hospital after my first with neutropinia my count went to 0.002 and its serious. I had to give up a family holiday to the states. The fact that there are plenty of people about, just means more germs, I know its rubbish but your family would not want you to be ill , you can go when its finished and you will enjoy it more cos you wont have any side affects

Hello girls

Oh Lisa, what a shame but then i went away to center parcs in my low period, oh and i did end up in hospital. However, caught the cold off my son. I avoided the swimming pool which is a big source of infection and we didnt go out in the evening. I know this is half the fun but i was being careful.

As someone else said on this site recently, to boost yr blood levels you need to eat some immune boosting foods. I am not a nutritionist but i know i have been craving red meat, good source of iron and green vegetables (the same).

If you do go, make sure you know where the nearest hospital is and how to get there. I didnt and had to use an ambulance.

There is a website you could look at - a student dissertation i found recently on supporting your diet during chemo.

Its so hard for us at moment because we need a break.

I am thinking of you…

I ended up in hospital after first chemo with neutropenia. I was then given injections but still ended up in hospital after the next one with white blood count 00 so they very sensibly put me on the chest ward where folk were in with chest infections and the like!!! This was the Royal Oldham. I was ok with the rest though hope yopu all ok and bearing up !!! love Eileen
