If doing it in the stomach, pinch a large area of flesh in which to inject the needle into and don’t pull the needle out too quickly once it’s in, leave it in for 5 or so seconds before gently pulling it out and then press some cotton wool over for a minute or so.

Hi Sharon, I did this to myself this afternoon, the joys of being a singleton, lol! I was a bit nervous about it but it was no problem at all - just pinched the folds of skin (fat) in my tummy and stuck the needle in. I was told it would feel like a bee sting, but hardly felt anything - probably because of all the fat, lol. Good luck with it, I’m sure you’ll be fine

Hi
I have had to do these injections when I was having Taxotere. It doesn’t hurt its just the thought of it thats worse.
Just grab a bit of flesh and stick it in. The worse bit was filling up the syringe as my fingers were so sore from the Chemo

Hi,
I found wiggling my toes helped with the granocyte injections and also the anti-clotting ones you get when in hospital, focuses the mind on something other than the injection.

Hi
I had granocyte injections when i was having taxotere. my niece who is a nurse, showed my husband how to do it. Her tip was dont pinch it but stretch the skin between the fingers then inject. Well, i had quite a few and didnt hurt a bit so must have worked.
All the best

I’ve had Neutropene throughout my 3xFEC and now Tax. I was a bit squeamish about injecting myself at first but it’s really easy and I’ve had no problems. Needless to say good hand hygiene is important and would agree that wiggling the toes helps along with not pulling the needle out too quickly. It rarely hurts more than a pin prick.
What I would say is the bone pains can be quite bad for a few days. It feels like a deep nagging pain like flu. I had a bit of worry the first time because I had been told to expect the pain in my long bones. In fact the worst pain is in my back. Not everyone gets them but it can be sort of comforting to know that’s what’s causing it if you do. good luck.

I have to self inject Heparin (Zeloda tabs gave me thrombosis) every day and as I,m having chemo fortnightly, one week after each chemo, for 5 days I have to self inject Neutropene.
I am unable, for different health reasons, to inject in the stomach area, so have to do it in my legs and I hate it. Whilst it doesn,t hurt my legs now look really terrible.
At first my bones ached after the first injections but now it seems to hit on the 3rd day. My lower back hurts and my limbs generally have a feeling of falling out of their sockets! I feel like I,m walking around like a puppet!!
I haven,t tried wiggling my toes but will give it a go tomorrow.
