Why I am so hungry!!!

Help!!! I can’t stop eating and I’m starving all the time. I’ve just had first chemo CMF NO STERIODS just anti sickness tablets, if I keep eating like this I will put on about 4 stones by next week!. Does anyone know why I’m so hungry.
thanks

No idea, but I sympathise. I can eat for England and days 3 to about 8 I eat everything that doesn’t run away fast enough! I think it’s just yet another SE from chemo. A suggestion that might help is to NOT LET CHOCOLATE IN THE HOUSE, for that week anyhow, to make it more difficult to indulge in the highly calorific stuff.

Good luck!

It’s not chocolate, it’s carbs i want. I work for a well known chocolate company so have plenty in the house, that i’m not touching I will bring some into the woods later!!.

Carbs for me, pasta pots etc. Cheese, ratatouille , fish and chips, feast and fab ice-cream oh and onion rings, poor hubby had to make a dash to chippy one night for them, it’s like being pregnant but more demanding.
Oh dear I’m hungry again

Went off wine and chocolate during chemo BUT the carbs were my downfall. Crumpets, muffins, toast, hot cross buns… need I go on. Curries and chili too, esp on the day of chemo! Marli

Oh my god just reading this post has made me wont to go and raid the fridge again!!!. I agree with you all Im just so hungry all the time for really stodggy things, I have put on over half a stone since treatment started in march, god knows how Im going to get it off!!.I think lack of energy to do anything hasnt helped, I must try to walk the dog more, but I seem to get out of breath so quickly. Has anyone else found that they have that side effect of chemo?God I could just eat some hot buttered toast with jam

Morning ladies, been exactly the same craved lots of carbs and things I would not normally eat. Put on 1.5 stones so far and started chemo in Feb and won’t be finishing till end of June/Beg July. Clothes bursting at seams but reluctant to buy bigger as don not want to be this size. Even up in the night after treatment because so hungry. Apparently it is normal. And agree it is just like being pregnant but worse - I won’t have a pink bundle at the end ot this!!!..

For the clothes thing, ebay is your friend.

For everything else? Shove over, I’m climbing into the boat. I have fancied potatoes a lot more than usual, but Charlotte or Anya or other posh varieties of new spuds, boiled, peeled and with loads of butter. Or cut up with spring onions and a boiled egg, smothered in mayo and there’s an even more fattening potato salad. But I have also fancied plates of veg, so that helps fill me up. The problem is, even when I’m physically full, I’m not satisfied, so keep eating to the point of discomfort. Anyone else the same? I wish they could help with some appetite surpressants, the lardy-bum look just adds to the nasty things to cope with, doesn’t it.

I think the idea of not keeping loads of stuff like that in the house helps a bit, but only if you don’t have other people in the house who eat the things you crave.

Getting out to walk the dog is a good one. Think about it - would YOU want to eat a sandwich using a hand covered in doggie slobber? Eugh, even I wouldn’t go that far!

It could just be emotional eating. Just a thought ladies.

Carbs was all I ate as well but it was rice and potatoes. Everything else tasted awful. So chicken fried rice my fav meal.

Never used to eat chocolate but crave for it now. Back in uk to see my sons and eating loads of junk food i missed in Thailand.I know I shouldn,t be eating it but when the craving starts got too have it. Getting beyond a joke now as piling on the weight

Healthy eating and gym for me when I get back to Thailand next week if my knees will handle it.

Hatty, I thought about that, but in normal life when stressed I stop eating so am not prone to comfort-eating. Good point though.

I’ve been lucky and didn’t put on any extra between FECs 1-4, but by FEC5 I’m half a stone heavier. Weight did go up and down like a yoyo by almost a stone though, so I tend to track my weight by the day before next chemo, it’s too up and down otherwise.

I’m on steroids (IV on poison day) and for 4 days afterwards and I get the munchies for days 1-9 then it trails off again. Constant grazing is also good for the nausea. I try to stick to flaked almonds and dry crackers but the Force is weak in this one, Master Luke.

I’ve just done EC 3 this week and so far just trended upwards by 1Kg through the 3 cycles but I’ll be down to +0.5 Kg by end of this cycle if it keeps trending gently upwards as before. I’m sticking to leggings and tunic tops for now as trooser waistbands are not comfortable until at least day 10.

I put on half a stone immediately after surgery on top of the stone that I gained last year before any of this started. I have dropped back a few pounds but just staying at a steady weight is a huge battle right now as like choccie I seem to still be craving food even when there is simply no room for more! Actually I find I often am not actually really enjoying eating these extras anyway! Don’t like chocolate at the moment, tring to stick to nibbling on nuts or dried fruit and nuts, sometimes a handfull of mini breadsticks. I try to get out for a walk with the dog most days which helps a little bit, but too many bread products and sticky buns definately do not!

The reason i put a stone on was i was so active before chemo so less activity more sitting, eating to relieve boredom of sitting the two make more weight lol…

Couldn’t sleep last night so ate a bag of crisps and half a chocolate bar!! Decided to behave myself today and started the day off with melon( polishes halo) unfortunately that didn’t hit the reqiured spot but the victoria sponge that followed did!Lunch pork pie and coldslaw , so the carbs are now being joined by the staturated fat brigade. Have spent the afternoon in the bedroom well away from the fridge and cupboads, will struggle to spend the nxt 5 months in the bedroom!!
Happy eating
T

Have already eaten far too much today. Bowl of Crunchy nut for brekkie, Soup and 3 slices of bread for lunch, two bowls of pasta with egg, bacon, onion, mushroom, Boursin cheese all mixed in. There was some left over so it would have been rude to waste it so we had to finish the pot. Off out this evening but I’m driving so will be on the ginger beer or lemonade.

Terri you could spend the next 5 month in the bedroom with mr Terri and get up to some jiggery  eat what you want and burn off the calories love and hugs xxx

ps don’t forget the super glide lube though xxx
