Why so many?

I’ve been gobsmacked to realise how many young women there are with bc - I commented on it to my bcn, who agreed - and yet the official line is still that screening is only necessary over 50? I understand that breast density changes, so mammograms are more effective as we age, but surely a simple breast exam by a gp during routine screenings as cervical smears, as suggested, makes sense?

On the subject of how to check - I have never been shown properly - the closest I got to info was watching Dr.Chris on thismorning years ago. I even mentioned this to my female gp at a smear test about five years ago, and she just laughed and gave me a vague approximation of how to do it… and to be honest, I’ve never been pressing hard enough to feel anything, judging by that! I’ll be educating my own daughters a lot more thoroughly, believe me - and if just one of my friends takes more care because of my dx, well, that’s a good thing too.
