Why the delay for Chemo?

I was delivered the news on 28 Aug that I have bc invasive stage 2 approx 3.5 cm and due to size and my age (44) etc was given the opportunitu to have chemo before surgery to try and shrink the tumour for possible smaller lumpectomy (no guarantees). I thought this the best for me personally rather than surgery them chemo & rads etc.

I chose the hospital closest to me for the chemo and was told there is currently a 2 week waiting list. The hospital phoned me on the following Tuesday (5 days later) and gave me my first date of 17 September. This will be 3 weeks since diagnosis (less one day).

Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this kind of a delay? Now I know I need all this treatment I just want it to start as soon as possible. It’s like a huge black cloud hanging overhead.

Any comments much appreciated.

The waiting time is the worst hun, but they know what they’re doing and i’m sure they wouldn’t put you at any risk…
I waited 3 wks after mastectomy to start chemo but my treatment is private and also the scar needed time to heal up.
If you are confused or have any questions with regards to the waiting time, i wouldn’t think twice about calling the hosp and have them explain. It’ll put your mind at rest and make you feel a whole lot better i’m sure. Good Luck.
Big Hugs.x.

Sounds totally normal to me. I had a 15 week wait after surgery before my chemo started, quite normal here in Cumbria apparently.

Can I suggest you take this time to start going for a little walk every day and building up your immune system as much as you can:

A: It keeps your mind of the chemo coming up
B: If you can keep getting a little excercise during chemo it helps your energy levels (honest it does)
C: Every little bit of health prior to chemo helps in the long run,
