In the northwest we were advised that FREE wigs are available via the macmillan. Fittings can take place at the major christie Hospital in Withington Manchester, or at another unit in Stockport if that is easier to access. I appraciate Sarah Beeny and other TV personalities may have bought their own wigs, but considering shorage of money, i would urge thsoe staring a caner journey to first enquire with their nearest Macmillan team before purchasing anything online. Primarily because the fitters are aware of the sensitive needs you may be encountering, and at least you can try several wigs on before you choose, and even retrun for tweeks. One i’d settled on mine i just got my hairdresser to trim the fringe slightly, and she had done this for other clients so was exerienced.
I’d also add, Cold capping has been done by many women prior to yourselves. The name sounds worse than the treatment. The treatment does take longer - but we had a wonderful group of nurses that helped keep our spirits up. And come on Post surgery is more painful. i just focused out of the nearest window for the first 7 - 10 mins. I was guided to ensure i had my own blanket with me; but soon got warm on the ward. I did leave my feet out to get cold as i didn’t want to loose any sensation there. My treatment took place from september to march and I didn’t want No hair in that period. i lost 50% but I like other came through, not giving up at the first hurdle. you can get through this there are thousands of women who have and you have now joined that group. you Are strong, You can do this, and if you look towards a happy event at the end of chemotherapy you too will succeed.
