picked up my wig today as I start my chemo tomorrow and will lose my hair (dont want to take the risk with cold cap) I love it want to wear it all the time. I have long hair normally and It takes ages to style so this is a god send for me has anyone else had this
Hi Joanne
I didn’t bother with the cold cap as it takes too long and the sooner I can get out of the chemo unit the better!
I got a wig which looked very similar to my own hair in both style and colour. I used to dry and then straighten my hair and nor just stick the wig on and it takes literally a minute! I must admit that I only wear it to take son to school and pick him up or special occasions. I generally wear a bandana or buff during the day.
Get loads of scarves and hats as you wont want to wear it all the time.
Anita
Tip - when wearing scarves, it can be hard to tie them so they sit right over both ears. I use a ponytail band and tie all three ends together - it sits really well at the back and rests over the ears properly, which saves me constantly tugging at one side! If wearing scarves, wear outlandish earrings too - go for it!
Glad you like your wig though - but wearing it all day can be irritating - I get a imprint across my scalp and only wear it to work.
All the best to you - it’s good to be prepared, gives the illusion of some control over all this

Thanks all I dont really want to wear scarfs and hats as I dont suit them but will only keep good wig for going out and have fun wigs for in the house Ive always worn wigs for fun so iam used to them its at night iam worried as I have a new boyfriend (6 months) and dont want him to see me bald HELP.
Joanne - try to relax. I presume he’s seen your body by now - and all the imperfections you feel you have there? I know I have a jelly belly (2 kids in 15 months), caesarian scar, appendix scar, double chin, moustache (thanks chemo for removing that temporarily!) etc. My man still loves and fancies me. Communication is key. Can you try to explain your fear to him, give him a chance to reassure you?
It might sound a bit cheesy, but if he loves you it won’t bother him how you look on the outside. Easy to say I know. I have finished my chemo so I understand your concerns - I have 2 small children and was worried about how they would react. I tried to make jokes about it to make it easier for all of us. To be honest there are so many side effects with the chemo that after a couple of weeks the hair loss seems quite insignificant once you are used to it. I am now coming out the other side and my hair is growing back (about 2cm now) and I’ve become rather attached to my wig - can’t imagine not wearing it. It’s like something to hide behind to pretend to the outside world that you are not battling this horrible disease.
Good luck anyway.
Hi Joanne
I have worn my wig since my hair fell out, so about end of August, and it has been OK really, put it on every morning and take it off in the evening and then I put a little pink beany hat on. Not had any probs wearing it all the time.
Off to hairdressers tonight though for a cut/style and colour, as has come back dark and curly!!
Good luck

HI Joanne42, I have been with my partner 4 years and i was terrified of him seeing me with no hair…kept thinking he may leave me etc! I think he was really when i told him, I have been without hair for 3 weeks now and he has been fantastic. I think its mainly us who have a problem not our partners. I certainly had got myself in a right state even thinking of sleeping in another room! I do have a very fetching blue toweling turban for nightime, but he says i look like Ena Sharples ( dont know if your old enough to know her from coronation street!) anyway its easy to say dont worry but im sure you will be fine
thinking of you jo xx
Well chemo starts today so guess ive got no option but to hope that he can deal with this although its a lot to ask of him only time will tell
HI JOANNE42
Well the dead is done, how are you feeling? I know everyone here will be thinking of you
take care

I have 6 wigs through ebay/shops/nhs and i love them! If you feel better wearing them then go for it as its such a personal choice but the wigs look better than my real hair and i’m dreading the real stuff now!! Seriously though i doubt he’d care as much as you think but i love making an effort for myself (fake eyelashes/brows/hair) even though i know noone else ever expects it of me and my husband is so used to my batchy crop that he finds it wierder if he comes home from work esarly and i’m wigged up!
Wow six wigs, I just bought one very expensive one. But it has really fooled people. Now I’ve stopped wearing it as my own hair is coming back I’m having to explain why or just let people assume I’ve gone for a very severe summer cut!!! I did buy a summer hat on Saturday so that I will not burn when (not if) the summer comes.
