Wigs
Wigs I have just received a wig which I bought on ebay but the colour is not what I was expecting. It is so bleached blond looking. Does anyone know if wigs can be sprayed with hair colourants? I am very worried about going back to work with virtually no hair. I will finish FEC end of July and go back to work at the start of September. I work in a school and I wanted to get a very short wig so that when I come to take it off, the kids will not be too shocked, hence the ebay purchase. I get fed up with people telling me my hair will soon grow back, but it will probably be after Christmas before I can dispense with the headgear. Does anyone know a good website to buy inexpensive short wigs?

Hello Judith
I bought a lovely second hand wig from the Wig Bank for £15. They have a selection of reasonably priced new ones too.
Best wishes

Daughter’s Wedding?? You said before your daughter’s wedding is in June - has it happened, does it happen in the “good week” of your chemo. Can’t help with the wig I’m afraid, bought one from ebay and it looks awful. Had to spend out on a good one which looks very much like my own - picture on my profile. Cheers Anne
NHS I got my wigs thru NHS - at my hospital there is a wig clinic once a week - it will cost you £57 each and you are entitled to 2 every 6 months. I think you can get a voucher to take to approved suppliers to use also. I got 2 and the retail price for both was around £125, and they are very good quality.
Happy shopping
Anita
Wigs When I went to get my NHS wig, I was so pleased I took a hairdresser with me - she geared me in the right direction, as I would have bought one that was too bleached blond looking - when she picked out the colours, I thought it looked very dark, but when the wig came, the colours were perfect. Three of us went to the NHS supplier in our area - the wigs are the same as sold in expensive outlets - but they other two girls were disappointed mainly due to colour.
My advice is really to get someone who knows to check the colour you are ordering…
I am not sure that you can spray the wigs - I was told not - but how about a few nice hairbands or thin scarves to take the attention from the wig colour.
It is really hard to buy wigs without actually seeing them on you …
The other alternative is to go to a wig shop - try on the wigs and select the colour (with help) and then search the web to see if you can buy the same.
Another question - where do all our wigs end up when we have finished with them? Is there a second-hand wig service available anywhere? Anyone know?
Sorry Anthi Sorry Anthi - had not read your post before charging in.
Wig bank - that’s where they wigs end up…
Many thanks

Hi Judith
I have 14 wigs all off the same girl from Ebay. Her ebay shop is called Vogue Wigs. I have about 6 different coloured bobs and some longer styles.
She is from Belfast and her wigs cost £18 to £20…I would never buy off anyone else.

wigs I have ordered a wig through the NHS for£58.10 but as it is out of stock I have to wait awhile, as my hair started falling out quickly I went on the internet to Wig World and ordered a discount wig for £19.99 it is dark brown short and curly like my own hair, it seems ok the colour is fine but as I have never worn a wig before I am not sure about it and sorry have no idea if you can dye it. My wig came with a load of leaflets for transvestites wigs false boobs and fancy dresses, dont know who they think i am and hope they haven’t put me on their mail list.

Hello Heather Lou Hello Heather Lou
Yes I think the Wig Bank is a good place to donate them to. they put the proceeds from the sales to Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centre so they are going to a good cause.
Best wishes

Thanks Thanks for all your replies. I have already got my wig from NHS wig clinic and it was completely free. I wore it to my daughters wedding last Saturday and everyone said I looked great. Thanks Anne, for asking how it went. It was a perfect day and I was so glad that I felt well and kept going right to the end of the party and even managed quite a lot of dancing! I must say the wedding has been a wonderful distraction over the past few months. Anthi, thanks for the Wig bank details. I will probably send them an email and may even donate my ebay wig. I don’t think I will attempt to colour it. I will also look at Wig World and Vogue wigs on ebay. Although I have my NHS wig, I would like a shorter one but I don’t think I need 14! Most of the time I wear a towelling turban from www.alternativelook.co.uk, which is very comfortable. I’ve had my 4th FEC today. I didn’t bother with the cold cap this time. After three sessions I have a few wispy bits of hair on my head with a very thin fringe and some hair at the back of my neck. I don’t look forward to the next week of feeling as though I have a bad hangover with horrendous indigestion, sore mouth, runny nose, watery eyes, hot flushes etc. At least I am over half way through and there is light at the end of the tunnel. Best wishes to you all and special hugs to all those who are experiencing personal, relationship problems as well as feeling like s–t with these dreadful side effects.
