Hi, We have been told by my mums doctor that she is best to get her wig fitted etc before her chemo starts. First treatment is next week and she has her pre-assessment etc this week so I am assuming we will be advised then as to where to go for a wig as obviously we will need to buy one this weekend. But just wondering meantime if anyone can recommend good wig shops around us? We are in the Falkirk area, Central Scotland - and willing to travel to Glasgow & Edinburgh…
They are based in Edinburgh Agnes is very good having been through Breast Cancer herself she knows all the feelings your mum will be getting at this moment.
Does anyone else have any advice on wigs? I don’t know where to start, my hair is coming out quickly now, only 17 days after my first chemo and I’m not prepared at all! I did have it cut short last Tuesday but at this rate I will need a wig soon.

I have my wig but don’t wear it much, I prefer bandanas, there is a fab website called Bohemia Fashions and I wear the ones which are elasticated at the back with three ties. They look and feel really trendy (my sister calls me gipsy Rose Lea !). They deliver within 2 working days too.
I also found the Edinburgh Wig Bank excellent. Agnes is very helpful and I bought a lovely second hand wig from there for £15. I also bought quite an expensive one from a very good shop but I prefer my second hand one.
I also wear hats and scarves quite a lot. Have a look at headcovers.com. They’ve got loads of nice things specially for chemo patients. They’re in the USA but their stuff arrives in just a few days. I have a couple of their little terry towelling sleep caps which I wear in the house all the time - they are very soft and comfortable especially when your hair first falls out and you have a sore head.
I also have some lovely cotton Indian scarves from theindiashop.co.uk and I wear them with a little cotton skull cap underneath which gives your head more shape. headlinehats.co.uk sells the skull caps quite cheaply.
Maree- If you ask th breast care nurse she should give you information on free wigs. Turvey of Edinburgh are very good if you phone them they will tell you their agents are. tel 01313340707. hope this helps. Jeanxx
Thank you very much for your advice, I managed to get myself a really nice wig, it needs a trim but it’s very realistic. I’m finding my scarf a lot more comfortable though, I wore it out last night with barely a glance from anyone.
hi Marie I live not far from you in Fauldhouse I have all my treatment at St Johns in Livingston. I went to Turveys in Edinburgh I was sent there by the hospital. They were ok they only brought 1 wig out at at time I took my friend with me and she picked up a magazine and found some great ones they were Raquel Welch ones absolutely brilliant but we had to ask for them to be shown to us I think it was the price mine was £150 but it is lovely. I will be finished with mine in about 3 weeks but I am not allowed to give my email address on here or you could have mine as a spare one. Let me know what hospital you attend AND i MIGHT GET IT TO YOU SOME HOW lOVE linda xxxxxxx
Hi thanx for your comments - My mum and I went through to Turveys on Monday and it was a real pleasant surprise… the first wig Elaine brought through was perfect it is very similar to the hairstyle mum has - although my mums hair is slightly grey(!) - the wig is a light brown and it looks like she has just had her hair coloured! She brought others but we just kept comparing to the first and there was no contest! Unsure what the make was, it was in a black box but canni remember now! We also got a headscarf and fringe… Mums first treatment was Tuesday, so far so good, so we will organise to go back through once mums hair thins/goes to get the wig adjusted etc but as I say we found it all very professional and it perked mum up alot. Mums treatment is in Falkirk - thanx for the offer of the spare wig, that was very kind of you, however, with the wig and scarf etc she is pretty much sorted. Marie xxxx
