Wigs

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a wig specialist in the Surrey? My Mum starts chemo next week and she wants to try to get a wig similar to her own hair if she can.

Thanks for any help!

Hi michelle my name is julie i recommend the website wigs r us they are very good and also i got a few of ebay brand new and real smart

Hi Michelle

Not sure where in surrey you are, but there is a wig shop in Lakeside shopping centre, Suzi Wigs, which are very good. There is also a website, www.headcovers.com, which is us based, but delivery is very fast. Although, think it is better to try on first and make sure you like. Try doing a search for wig shops in surrey on the net and see what you get. Might help.

Just for info, my hair only started to fall out last week, so approx. 3 weeks after first chemo.

Good luck. Hope this is some help.

Hi Michelle,

I can also recommend Suzi Wigs of Lakeside shopping centre in Thurrock. Infact I went there today and bought a fantastic wig, the service was really wonderful, they were so helpful and kind - also you go into a little cubicle while to try the wigs on, having said that no-one takes any notice as they are too busy sorting out their own wigs. The wig I bought was from the Amore range by Rene of Paris, it even has a natural coloured scalp and can be parted anyway you wish. Also, you are able to get your VAT back there and then, they give you a form to fill in and deduct the 17.5% when you pay.

If Thurrock is a bit far from where you live for a quick visit, it is quite possible to make a day of it, there are about 500 shops in the centre plus a food court and numerous other eateries, it is well worth a visit to the shop as they can fit the wig properly for you and you can try on as many as you wish.

Good luck to you and your mum and I hope all goes well for her,

Kind Regards,

Tracy

Hi Tracy and Michelle

Glad you went to Suzi Wigs Tracy, they are lovely in there aren’t they. I burst into tears when I went in the other week, but they were so kind and very helpful. Bought my wig, and it was the last one we tried on that one of the ladies actually picked out. Well worth going. Even worn it out this weekend, still feel very conscious of it, but getting use to it.

Michelle, as Tracy said, Lakeside is a big shopping centre and Suzi Wigs are so very helpful and kind. They let you try on as many as you like, in a booth with the curtain open or shut and don’t mind how long you take. Didn’t pay VAT and got £40 back from NHS (just sent it off). Had to pay £25 for the shampoo, condition, hairspray and oil conditioner stuff to keep wig looking good, but will last for ever. I even went on line and got a head thing to stand my wig on - was £7 apprx after postage. So looks good in the morning.

Good luck with your search. Tracy sure you look fab in your wig. Next time you are over this way, maybe give me a shout. Although warning, probably have muppets in tow!

Take care

Hiya,

I would recommend ‘Trendco’. They have a few stores around the country, there’s one in london. They do the wigs for the likes of babs windsor and are v.v.good.

Also, along with ‘headcovers’ website check out www.mynewhair.org.uk. It is a site set up by Trevor Sorbie. If you get a wig and it needs cutting then this site lists salons up and down the country that will cut it for free.

Hope this helps,

Take care,

Kelly

Hi Dawn & Kelly,

I have decided to have the grand ‘unveiling’ of my new wig to the public next Monday!! I say ‘public’ as I work in retail as a window dresser and am usually on display, and most of the customers know me (but not about the bc) and will probably comment. Unfortuately my hair is now coming out at a rate of knots, when I brush it there’s a bird’s nest size clump in the brush but I have resigned myself to it now and am not as upset as I thought I would be, I’m even thinking of shaving it off at the weekend.

Dawn - I will definatley let you know when I am off to Lakeside next, and I don’t mind a bit about your children coming too - the more the merrier!!

Love to you both,

Tracy x
