Wish I could sleep

Another sleepless night god why do they seem so long I can hear kids screaming outside drunk no dout day 11 of chemo pm me if anyone wants talk laura

Sorry you were awake too Laura - I was awake at 3am too for over 2hours last night but do try to stay in bed to rest - only way I survive is to listen to other voices on IPod albums or meditation tracks or radio 4 (but hate hearing children’s progs in the middle of the night!)
Hope tonight is better for us both - thinking of you

I was also awake from 3 onwards, eventually went back to sleep at 7am. Finished a book, but stayed in bed resting, so it wasn’t a complete waste of time. I expect I’m going to be knackered later today, will probably need a snooze after race for life. Actually, could probably do with one BEFORE as well!

I’ve always been a bit of an insomniac - worse now since BC. I have a little portable DVD player with an earpiece which I often get out in the middle of the night. There is something mesmeric about staring at a screen getting caught up in the film/series. It takes your mind off other things and though it might take a wee while I usually end up getting tired enough to switch it off and go to sleep.

Wouldn’t sleep be nice? Was asleep the other night when the cat brought in a (live) mouse - bless him!!! SO pleased!!! Actually took Paracetomol and Brufen during the day yesterday (cause I ache after the Tax) and that seemed to help…

Hi Ladies,

Sorry you are having problems sleeping. I coped by taking 1 Piriton tablet at bedtime, it worked a treat. Did not take it every night, maybe every third. I did check to make sure it was okay for me to do that and was told it was fine. Best that you check too before you try it.

hi laura , the only thing thats helps me sleep is a fan in my room think its white noise , my kids cant believe the noise of the fan doesnt wake me but it really soothes me to sleep x

Hi Folks,

I don’t think I have slept a full night for months. My remedy is to have bud headphones; the soft, comfortable ones, and to listen to the radio through the night. I usually listen to radio 4 extra or talksport radio (no sport just phone ins during the night). I find that the voices make me doze off for periods at a time. It means that when I wake I am not so tired.

All the best ladies - Sue xx.

I find talk radio (R4) on very low works - so you have to concentrate to hear it, but not too intrusive. Listening to something stops my mind going places I don’t want it too, and I can drift back to sleep easily. During chemo when the steroids kept me awake I used Nytol, which was pretty effective. Hope you have a better night tonight.

50 something - snap - cross-posted!

Sue, Radio 4 is my “sleep drug of choice” when I’m at home, but I have it turned down very low and on the bedside table rather than in my ear, I find the earbuds make the sound so clear I find myself listening rather than dozing! I can’t do that when on a “sleepover” at OH’s house, so I just bring my kindle and a torch. And then when OH wakes up early and turns on the telly, I’m out like a light!

Hi CM,

The reason I use the bud earphones is because hubby would be a wreck by the morning if I had the radio on all night. I do tend to find myself listening to a good play or comedy but in the morning can’t remember the ending, so I must have dozed off again. It seems to work for me. I am not sure about Radio 4, what do they have on during the night? I like the variety on Radio 4 extra (used to be BBC7).

Sue xx.

BBC World Service. Can be extremely boring.

Been awake since 3.30 am but I have a habit of nodding off early evening…then waking up and going to bed…then, of course, I wake early. I always have Radio 4 on low…although yes the children’s programmes seem to wake me too…suddenly I’m wide awake listening to Justin Fletcher (aka Mr Tumble.)
Hope you’re able to snatch a little more sleep today Laura…x

Played the duvet game several times last night but managed to get straight back to sleep afterwards, even after having a 2-hour nap yesterday afternoon. Sorry I couldn’t join you on the “I’m wide awake” thread!

I want to know what it is that wakes me every day within 5 minutes of 6am. Very odd.

thought of joining you all in the wee small hours, but I decided to watch recorded episode of Lewis and Undercover Boss USA instead… half an hours sleep last night… joy…
