Wishing I lived in England right now

My GP has made an urgent referral for me to visit the breast clinic on may 11th. As I live in Wales the two week limit does not apply, in Wales they merely state ASAP . I have now had my appointment with a mammogram on 31/5/12 and the appointment at the clinic on 13/6/12. Really struggling with the wait at the moment wishing I had insurance to go private as my family history of breast cancer does not bode well and I have lumps in my armpit as well as my breast. It’s going to be a long few weeks

Just wanted to drop a hand of support over to you! Let us know how you get on with your appointment tomorrow.

I know its easy to say, but we know that the waiting is the worst as you feel you have no control, but try not to worry too much about the time you have waited for an appointment. You were referred on the 11th, if your appt had been within 2 weeks it could still have been the 25th, so that is only 6 days sooner. And in terms of any potential treatment you may need that won’t make any difference. When I was diagnosed in 2010 I was living in Dublin and because my GP deemed my circumstances non urgent (I was too young and the lump was just fibroid according to her) I waited 3 weeks for an initial mammo, then 5 days for a biopsy and another week for diagnosis. Because I came back to London for treatment, I started treatment 4 weeks after diagnosis. So all in all it was about 9-10 weeks from seeing my GP to starting treatment. My treatment consisted of chemo, SNB and WLE, rads and then Herceptin for a year and now I am all clear currently, and life is back to how it was before. Good luck in your appt and remember whatever the outcome, that life will return to normal and whilst it does there are people out there to support you every step of the way.

I no how you feel I have been waiting since the end of April, finally got an appointment on 4th June in Scotland…the waiting is the worse I have tried to keep myself busy but all I can think about is the lump iny breast and arm pit…have you tried calling the helpline they helped me a lot and made me feel better…hope all goes well for you xx
