with dcis, after rads do you see the onc or surgeon?

Hi everyone

I am in the middle of having rads for dcis. I asked the radiotherapists when I would be likely to see the oncologist again. She said that after rads, I was being referred to the Breast Care Nurse and discharged from oncology. What is the norm? (if there is one)

I was DX last october and had WLE and rads. I finished rads on 28th jan and saw the onc that day and again six weeks later. Due to breathing problems i saw her again last week and have another appt in june. I will see her for the next year at least which is usual in the Portsmouth area.
I can understand your concern but in this area the BCNs are brilliant and I would not worry if i was referred to them

I was told that I would see the Breast Care nurse at the Beatson in my last week of rads but I also know that I will be recalled to the onc dept in Falkirk and I will be seen regularly between them and the consultant who did my surgery… I have my 6 month check up with him already booked for September… and I will be in ‘follow-up’ for 10 years. Not sure what type of cancer I actually had but will be sure to ask when I go back to the clinic.

That makes sense. I guess I will see the BC nurse who then will arrange for me to see others. I thought I was being dumped out of the system!
