WLE - clusters of microcalcification

A routine mammagram at 51 showed 2 small areas microcalcification in left breast. After a gruelling needle biopsy (15 attempts - which was like torture), consultant recommended a WLE as results were inconclusive. Had this done 3 days ago and awaiting results. Trying to remain positive. Anyone had or having the same experience ?

Hi amoret

So sorry you have had to go thru this torture. But plenty of people on here have had the same thing - see the DCIS thread on here. The microcalcifications usually mean pre-cancer (DCIS - ductal carcinoma in situ) and is treated with WLE if small or sometimes Mastectomy if widespread (so it doesn’t progress to invasive cancer). If good margins are taken and no nodes are involved then there is a very good prognosis for this. You may be offered radiotherapy also 4 weeks after your surgery.

Best Wishes
