Hi
I had my lumpectomy on Wednesday and woke up in so much pain this morning. My actual boob incision is OK when I’m sat still but the one under my arm is so bad. I can feel it constantly. it’s taking my breath away it’s so sore and uncomfortable. How long can I take the painkillers for as the codeine says 3 days. Also after surgery when did you start to move about a bit. I was thinking of going to visit my mum this morning. She only lives about 5 minutes away. I think she would come and visit me but my dog doesn’t like her and barks at her constantly and don’t think I could deal with that this morning.
Sorry for the moan

Sonya So sorry to hear you are feeling rough. They told me it wouldn’t hurt, but it did. The SNB scar was worse for me too. It WILL get better soon. You can take paracetamol & ibuprofen together. Have you tried that? Also don’t wait for pain to start, take it regularly for a few days, so paras once every 4 hours, max 8 a day & ibuprofen every six hours, max 6 a day. If you stagger it so you are having something every couple of hours that should help. if you’re still in pain call the GP they’re very sympathetic to breast cancer. We’re all different & some have more pain than others. Just do as much as you feel is right for you. If you want to get out of the house ask her to come round (without the dog if it gets on your nerves) & have a short walk together. You come first right now, so look after yourself. Hope you feel better soon. xx
Hi Sonya
I had the same operation 15 days ago and Ihave also found that where the nodes where removed has been much worse than where the lump was removed. I was at the hospital yesterday for my results and spoke to the Doctor about the discomfort I was still getting. When she examined me she said it was a build up of fluid and would take time to settle down but everything was healing well. I have had no problem at all from boob incision but it seems I just have to be patient and in time it will get better. I got over the surgery much quicker that I thought I would… i was out walking my dog the next day. If you feel like it why not visit your mum as it might help to get out for a while.
Take care of yourself and best wishes xx
Sorry your feeling rubbish, I had mammoplasty and lumpectomy i feb and I also found the snb was more painful than the boob, you can take co codamol for longer than three days, see your gp if you need something different xx
Hi Sonia,
I posted already but it’s disappeared?? Think it may be my slow computer timing out.
So sorry that you’re still in so much pain. I’m sure it will have improved a bit by tomorrow and will continue to improve. As others have said, you could always ask your GP for stronger painkillers for a few days. Are you wearing a sports bra? Is it rubbing against the wound under your arm?
My breast Surgeon also told me that I wouldn’t be sore after surgery but I was sceptical as I have already read that a lot of people feel quite sore after SNB.
I do hope you feel better soon.
Sorry, but I couldn’t help laughing at your comment about your dog not liking your Mum and constantly barking at her. Dogs eh, what are they like?
Best Wishes
Hazel. xx
Hi Sonya, sorry to hear that you are in a lot of pain. I also found that the excision pain wasn’t too bad but under my arm where some nodes were removed was very painful. I don’t usually like taking any tablets, but the nurse did tell me that taking the painkillers regularly for a few days (paracetemol and Ibuprofen) would help me heal quicker (not sure how). I went for a 30 minute gentle walk and also started doing the excercises the day after surgery and whilst they were very difficult for the first couple of days, I am sure it did help and I was in no pain at all after 10 days. Unfortunately due to some dcis at the margins I had to have a re-excision to remove more tissue 2 weeks after surgery but actually it wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be and I didn’t have very much pain at all. I would suggest contacting your bcn if you are concerned and she may be able to suggest something to make you more comfortable. Good luck. Michelle xx
Hi girls,
I am a little bit better today thanks. Friday was absolutely awful. I spent yesterday on the sofa as was just so tired. I managed a shower this morning so I felt better for that. I’ve been to visit my mother in law for a couple of hours today but just had to take some more paracetamol because my snb was hurting again. Luckily the time between taking them is increasing each day so I’m not feeling as dependant on them.
Embarrassing question time.
I have found that the blue wee has diminished but has anyone ever had green stools?
I’m due back at hospital on Tuesday to see my bcn. My mother in law (mil) is going away in the morning to Prague and the hubby is working, kids are at school so will probably just have a really long lie in as the house will be quiet for once as my mil has been round every day to look after me.
Hope you are all OK and keeping as well as you can.
Love Sonya x
And my boob is still bright blue 12 months later!! The fun never ends!![]()
