Does anyone know if you can get worldwide private medical insurance after having a mastectomy for DCIS (essentially pre-cancer - though I don’t think insureres see it that way.) I am trying desperately to get medical insurance as I am moving to the caribbean in a few months but the main insurers won’t cover me at all. Has anyone ever got medical insurance after they’ve had a cancer diagnosis? Any help would be very gratefully received. Obviously, I do want cover in case the cancer returns - does anyone think I will get it anywhere?

Hi, I finished my treatment in 2006. A month after my treatment I decided to travel for a few months. Initially i had difficulties getting trav.insurance, insurers requested things like a letter from my oncologist, confirmation that it was 12 months post treatment, or have i had “the all clear”, then to be given an extortionate quote. My brother suggested I call AA, they were understanding and very friendly. Did not request a letter, and was given a quote for extended worldwide annual cover for £80, it excluded breast cancer. I gladly took up the insurance and was in New Zealand travelling less than 2 months after completion of treatment.
Hope you find the insurance cover you want and have a great time in the caribbean…
