Hi cmini24, I had on and off pain for several months as well, no lump that I could feel, neither could my gp but luckily she referred me anyway as it was cancer, I don’t want to worry you as we’re all different but I’d insist on a referal to the breast clinic To get it properly checked out. Good luck xxx
Hi
It was a sharp stabbing pain that alerted me to my lump , I woke one morning feeling like i was being stabbed in the breast it was very painful I felt my breast and immediatly felt the lump , as I check regulary this was quite a shock mine unfortunately turned out to be bc but many do not, pain can also be caused by other under lining problems so best to get checked out if only to rule out anything nasty , good luck hope all goes well for you

Hi cimini24, you have done right thing to get an appointment, hopefully it is soon?.
I had a stinging pain in my breast and was just thinking something must be wrong and my mammogram happened to be around the same time as this started . It hurt more after the mammogram and I knew something was not right . Sure enough I had a thin long cancer growing in one of my breast ducts and there was no lump.
There are a number of reasons for pain in the breast so don’t automatically think you have Cancer. Your GP might refer you on as a precaution but better to get properly checked rather than keeps having pain and worryIng. Let us know how it goes, best wishes, Katy.
Hi I,m new to this site. I have recently found a large lump on the upper part of my left breast, which was checked out at the breast clinic fairly quickly. They initialy said during the ultrasound that is was a cyst and they could drain it for me there & then, which i was soooo relieved about especially as I am getting alot of pain under my armpit & around my back and stabbing pain in the boob. During the procedure to drain it the sonographer (dr) said “oh its not a cyst its a solid lump, but im sure you have nothing to worry about” I now have to wait nearly 3 weeks for the biopsy result!!.
As like all of you on hear I am getting more & more anxious, im on the 2nd week & have now taken time off work as I cant focus and more so because the pain is getting more and more intense.
Is the stress making the pain worse? I am 44 and have two teenage kids and a very worried husband. Help ![]()
Thanks for reading.

I recently felt ‘lumps’ in my right breast. When I pressed them, they were very tender and painful. called my BCN and she referred me back for a scan. They could only find normal breast tissue, and then the nurse asked me to turn on to my left side. She pressed quite hard on the ribs beneath my breast and I almost jumped off the bed. I have Costochondritis, or inflammation of some of the ribs - the ones directly beneath my breast. That was a relief, as I was only about 8 weeks post chemo for the invasive cancer in my left breast, for which I also had MX. I was advised to take Ibuprofen to relieve the discomfort and pain.

Goodness Poemesgalore, you are certainly going through the mil!. Hope you start feeling better soon.
Noggin17 , sorry to hear your story what a shock for you!. You are naturally going to be anxious now. The waiting bit as I expect you have seen a lot of us on this site say is the worse as everything is out of your control. Have you seen your GP about managing your pain?. If not go as " putting up " with it will only debilitate you more. Stress will make pain worse so you really need to try and get the pain managed and tell your GP how things really are. Try speaking to the nurses on this site and don’t as everyone agrees google your condition stick with this site and McMillian site.
Your husband needs support as well and equally he can ask the nurses questions. My husband was a great support but I was in such a state in the early days I did not realise how much the whole cancer thing was having such an effect on him until he developed shingles which our GP said was probably from the stress of me having breast cancer. He has a couple of buddies he can talk to and some family support but we talk about it and share how we are both feeling and we have cried together.
Once you know where you are you will be able to feeI more in control . It is the not knowing that really is the worse thing and I found once I knew and what my treatment was I just wanted to get the ‘alien’ out as fast as possible!. Keep strong and let us know how you are, best wishes, Katy.
Thanks everyone. Was at the gp today who thinks its possibly something I infective so has given me a coruse of antibiotics. Also an urgent referral to breast care specialists. Feel slightly better but still very worried. Thanks to all who replied.
Hi thank you Katy for your kind words & support. My appointment is Thursday 15th so its coming around quickly now. Im actually on annual leave now and am managing to cope better more as time goes on.
Not sure how I will be on Thursday but Im managing the pain better it comes & goes. Someone told me that if they find anything on the biopsy the clinics usually phone you before your appointment, does this ring true with any of you out there?
Many thanks
Jo (noggin 17)
