Worried about my freind

Hello girls I am new to this site…my friend (early 60’s)who dosen’t have internet access…she had a lumpectomy followed by 4 weeks of radiotherapy…that was two weeks ago, her RT was not done at our local hospital it was done at a hosp 1hr away…and the BC Nurse at our local hospital is off long term sick (apparently due to stress, after BCN’s was cut back from 2 to 1!) suffice to say things have not been ideal…anyway that aside she is now suffering from blistering/open wound under breast/excruciating pain/breast very deep red in colour (like brusing). She went to Gp today who was no help, told her to take paracetamol and prescirbed her with Diclofenec, and to go and see the nurse tomorrow,I have had a look at some of the posts and picked up bits and pieces of info about things that I think she should be asking for. She will be happy that I have turned to girls who are/or have been going through the same thing, she dosen’t go back to see the consultant for a few weeks yet, and is at her wits end what to do/where to turn next etc. She cant sleep due to the pain, she has a large bust, getting comfortable at all is not happening…I am concerned about her so any help will great.
Thanks all …Neata

Hi Neata, sorry I’ve just seen this. I am just coming to the end of radiotherapy and my ribs have gone that colour too but luckily I have no broken skin. I am also having rads at a different hospital to surgery. They did offer me gel sheets to put on any burns, and hydrocortisone cream when it itched but I am not sure what they recommend for broken skin. They told me at the rads unit to contact my BCN if I needed any supplies of anything for rads effects. Your friend should have had one when she had surgery and they can help with treatments like that xx

Neata, sorry to hear about your friend. As she does not have the internet, why not get her to call the bcc help line the number is 0808 800 6000 and there there every day apart from Sunday, and they really are very very helpful.

Hope this helps.

SGL xx

Neata, sorry you don’t seem to have anyone you can contact for advice or what your friend can apply to her radiotherapy site.I haven’t started yet but have been told to use only what is given to me by BCN.
There are nurses on this site which you can phone and may be able to help if there is a MacMillan service in your area.
On internet look up Maggie’s Centres and see if there are any in your area- they can be very helpful and offer practical help as well as information or look under Havens.
Let us know how you get on,
Margaret

Was writing while other post being posted. Good advice from SGL. Encourage your friend to phone or you phone for her,
Margaret

Thanks so much for all your replys girls, sorry for the delay in getting back to you, been at work past few days, my friend Marilyn went to see the practice nurse at Gp’s on Friday, she just put some cream on her, and gave her a little bit in a sample pot…and I mean a little bit, barely a teaspoon full, she was told not to wash that area over the weekend, and re-apply the bit of cream today and put clean dressing on, then go back to see the nurse again tomorrow…Thank you so much for all your replys, I will pass on all your info to her, she will be over the moon with all your advice…and certainly the helpline would be very usefull as she has no BCN at moment(long term sick/overworked and underpaid no doubt)…in the meatime from myself and Marilyn take care girls, and thanks so much…I may well be back yet with more questions…Bye fro now…

Neata
