worried after a biopsy....

Hi - this is my first posting so I may be doing it all wrong!? But I’m worried. 7 weeks ago I found a lump so I went to my GP who sent me to a specialist. I had a fine needle biopsy, and I could see the fluid on the slide was clear. I also had a mammogram and an ultrasound. I was told on the day that it was benign. I came back today for a follow up with the same specialist who said the lump was still there so he would do another FMB which he did and said he was confident that it was fine. However, I glanced at the slide and saw that it had bright red blood on it. I should have asked but didn’t and now I’m really worried. He said he was partially discharging me after he did the biopsy pending the results of the biopsy. I wish I’d either asked or not looked at the slide as I’m now really anxious…can anyone advise me? I’m 42.

Hi catia

Welcome to the Breast Cancer Care discussion forums. I’m sorry to read you’re having such a worrying time at the moment.

Whilst you wait for the other users to reply with their experiences may I suggest you give the BCC helpline a call. Here you can share your concerns with a trained member of staff who will offer you a listening ear as well as support and information. The number to call is 0808 800 6000 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 to 5pm and Saturday 9 to 2pm.

I hope this is helpful.

Best wishes Sam, BCC Facilitator.

Hi there
I suggest that you ring the secretary of the consultant and ask for an urgent appointment. The results do not take too long, and for your own sanity, you need to know!

Also give the support nurses here a ring, often talking to someone, is enough to relieve the immediate anxieties enough to be able to cope.

Hoping everything is OK for you.
