Worried again - 3 months after excisional biopsy

Hi, I posted on here about 3 months ago when a had a large lump removed (3.5 x 3.5 x 3.5cm) and it turned out to be benign, a radial scar.

I am really worried again as since the operation, I have felt a lump ABOVE the incision line (the original lump was below, that has all gone).

The lump is about 2cm and is goes about half way along, pretty much directly above where the scar line is.

I am so frightened in case this could be something new, or is it just scar tissue?

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Thank you so much.

It could be several things, for example scar tissue, a bit of seroma, perhaps a haematoma, a benign cyst, or it could be more sinister but not likely.

The best thing to do is to contact your breast care nurse (if you were assigned one) or the breast clinic you first went to, and explain your concerns. They will whip you in and see you, and they will be able to tell you what it is. Unfortunately we can’t, but we can reassure you that there are lots of non-cancerous things it could be.

Best of luck, and get on that phone, you don’t need to be worrying.

Hi ChoccieMuffin, many thanks for your quick reply.

I spoke to the Breast Care Nurse but the soonest she could offer me an appointment is 2 weeks from tomorrow.

Is it possible that in just 10 weeks a cancerous lump could have appeared (I had ultrasounds and mammograms) that wasn’t there before?

It’s kind of under the surface of the skin and pretty much directly under the scar.

Thank you everyone!

Poor you!
Although I suspect that this lump is just tissue overgrowth due to the incision you still need it checked out.

If you can’t see your BN for two weeks I’d see your GP for an urgent appt (same or next day) - then if they think it has the remotest possibility of being serious they will refer you for assessment within the next two weeks.

If your hosp is anything like ours, if you see your BN in two weeks and she is worried she still won’t be able to get you an earlier appt so that would be another two week wait. So get onto the doc!

Good luck

Sue

Rather than asking whether it’s possible, a better question is, is it likely. And the answer to THAT question is, not really. But the only way to get a reassurance that will stop you from worrying yourself sick is at your appointment with the BCN.

I’m very glad you’ve got an appointment, and sympathise with the worry while waiting - The Waiting Room is a horrible place to be and we’ve all been there - but you can console yourself if possible with knowing it’s very likely to be scar tissue or similar. And the appointment you have with the BCN will give you the reassurance you need. She may be able to reassure you by doing a manual examination, or she might even get the ultrasound machine out if you’re still not reassured.

Hi
If its any help incisions can take up to 6 months to heal and invariably leave scar tissue for that amount of time sometimes even longer depending on how deep the cut was…
Still best to get checked out though if it is a worry as i,m sure it is, hope it all goes well and the waithing is,nt too stressful xx

Hi just wanted to say thank you very much to the people who have taken the time to reply to me, I really appreciate it.

I have an appointment to see my surgeon this Friday morning (I got a cancellation which was good) so I am hoping he will be able to put my mind at rest…

All the best to everyone else going through difficult times…
