Worried - asked back for more tests

Hi, I had attended my first Mammogram on Jan 7th as a routine screening age 47-49 and received a letter yesturday asking me back for further tests next Tues 18th Jan. Obviously very worried now and can’t pluck up the courage to tell my Mum, hubby and kids as they are all born worriers, should I tell them?? My sis in law is going on holiday so won’t be around to come with me, don’t know if I can go on my own, am sat at work now and can’t concentrate. I’m sure everything will be fine but doesn’t stop you from worrying…

Hi Spider woman,

I totally understand the worry that you are going through but please keep in mind that not all recalls are bad news, i appreciate that its hard but mammos can & do pick up areas of apparent abnormality that on further testing i:e ultrasound turn out to be just fine.

I personally recommend that you do tell someone even if at this point it is not family & is a close friend etc, believe you me over the next few days you will want to talk to someone & by keeping it to yourself it will just cause you even more worry & stress than you are already experiencing, also please dont be afraid to come on here to air/share your worries as it is full of people who have been exactly where you are now & are more than happy to listen/reassure, also dont be afraid to call the helpline number as they too are brilliant.

I will keep everything crossed for you & truly hope that you do not become a member of this club & please, please make sure you share your worries with someone.

Good luck for next week.

hugs

Thank you Sarah for your comments. I have in fact spoken to my sis-in-law who is a great help, but as you say doesn’t stop you worrying. Will let you know how I get on and my best wishes to you too, hugs as well. Sally xxx

Hi Spider-woman

You haven’t joined the cancer club just yet, so do take some hope. You would do well to read some of the publications on this site about what you can expect at the breast clinic, and also take note that 9 out of 10 lumps that are referred to a breast clinic turn out to be completely ok, and NOT cancer. Try not to do too much googling as there is lots of “information” out there that is out-of-date or downright wrong, and there’s no point in worrying yourself sick while you’re waiting.

And do give the helpline a ring too, they are a great resource to help you put your worries into perspective. No-one on here will call you silly for worrying, as we all know so well that the “waiting room” is the worst place to be in, and we all completely understand as we’ve all been where you are now.

But there are A LOT of people who’ve been in the waiting room and have left by the “ALL CLEAR” door, so fingers crossed that you’re one of them. Do let us know how you get on.

Thank you for your comments and will do as you suggest, thanks for the advice and will keep you posted.
