worried

been docs over inverted nipple and breast swollen been refered under the 2 week referal really scared what happerns next

Of course you are scared-try to remember that 9 out of 10 breast conditions are benign.
What will happen next is that you will get an appointment at a breast clinic where you will have a triple test. This is usually a mammogram,an ultrasound then,if there is anything there, a fine needle biopsy[honestly not too uncomfortable] where they will try to take some fluid for testing. If it is a one-stop clinic you will get results the same day otherwise you may have to wait a week.
Lets hope all will be well but if it is cancer then you have got started early and it will be sorted out soon.Meanwhile ring the helpline here the number is on the home page and they are so supportive and helpful.
Good Luck
Val

Hi,

Welcome aboard. Hope you are only scheduled for a short trip and are one of the many who find out that the changes in their breast are not cancer.

First of all nearly all doctors ask for urgent referalsnso that you are seen as quickly as possible, so do not read too much into that.

In my area you get that through in one or twoo weeks. Yes mammogram and ultrasound to see if there is anything suspicious. Some women are told there and then there is nothing to worry about. Then either a needle biopsy or a core biopsy, nno big deal. I have a huge needle problem and I got through it. Then the doc will tell you what the radiologist saw anw why they wanted to test it. They are very honest nowadays and don’t try to hide things.

My results came back in a week. He had said he honestly could not tell if it was cancer from the scan but when the test came back it was.

If you are one of the unlucky few that do need further treatment they will go through the plan with you.

You are given a breast nurse straight away who you can ring or go into see at any time.

And of course you have found this forum! The help line is good, but for me asking silly questions and waxing lyrical in the wee small hours has kept me sane.

Hi jessicachritine,I responded to one of your other threads.I’m pleased that your GP has finally referred you and as already has been said 9 out of 10 conditions are benign so hang on to that. The waiting is horrible and its normal to be scared.I know you will get lots of support from others on here.

Hugs and best wishes Melxx

thanks a lot it means a lot to know what they will do i am just glad i am getting seen

Hi JC,
I’d just like to second the advice given so far and to send lots of love and good luck. Let us know how you get on xx

I will let you all know how I get along when I get appointment to go at moment i am really worried about it nipple is still going inwards when lift arm and getting lump in neck which aint normally there and breast is sore pain killers not working that good I will be glad when I get seen the sooner the better been telling doc since dec and they only just doing something about it

JC, in the Publications section of this site there’s a very good leaflet that describes what might happen at your clinic. Not all clinics are exactly the same but the leaflet gives you a very good idea of the sort of thing to expect.

Get hold of a notebook to write down any questions.
Write down the answers you get as well, or bring someone with you who can do the writing.
You can bring someone with you if you want to, but don’t feel you have to. I went on my own, but others find it really helped having a friend or partner there for moral support.
Don’t google. Stick with reputable sites, like this one, Macmillan, Cancer Research, that kind of thing. There are lot of charlatans who are trying to get us to part with our money, and they scare us half to death in order to do so!
Give the helpline a ring, I’ve found them really helpful, even if it’s just to let off steam and have a good blub!
Cry if you want to. This is a very worrying time, The Waiting Room should be renamed The Torture Chamber, because the waiting really is the pits - worse than chemo!
Laugh if you want to. Just because you have this hanging over your head doesn’t mean you have to wander around being glum all the time.
Retail therapy works very well for some. (Nuff said…)
Some have needed to get sleeping pills from the doc to help with the worrying keeping them awake. There’s no shame in it, and that’s probably a bit better for you than drinking yourself into a stupor (something I did once or twice while in The Waiting Room).
Use the forums as much as you need to.
Please come back and tell us your news, which will hopefully be that it’s all clear.

THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS A SILLY QUESTION. If it’s enough to make you wonder, it’s enough to ask. Someone will be able to help you, however small the question, or will be able to suggest where you can go to get an answer.

how long is the weight to be seen doc says should hear by the 4 july but aint yet

my doctor takes the mick went in monday saying he going to do urgent referral went in today and found out referral only just been done doctor said to go back on 4 july if not heard by then

Really sorry your doctor not been very quick about things, hope you hear something soon, take care. Kx

I would also get the number of the clinic and call them, asking if they have a cancellation. That sometimes happens, and if you explain your GP has been a bit lax in doing the referral, they might see if they can slot you in.
