Wrist bands for nausea

Hello - Has anybody tried and had any success with wrist bands for nausea? I’m clutching at straws really. Just had first FEC on 22 Jul, and spinning with nausea since. Pills don’t seem to be a great help. Any other tips? I suppose it’s just grin and bear it, really…

Hi Doone - drinking loads of water day before(sorry bit late for that! but good for next time) and then on. I’m drinking loads of water every day - as does root ginger tea - just slice up a bit of root ginger and add boiling water . I had first FEC on 18th July and wasn’t sick at all - maybe just lucky - please join us on “anyone having chemo round 15th July” thread because there’s a few of us together and it really does help to have buddies! No-one in the real world understands what it’s like and we can support each other - lots of love and hugs Chebsy x

I did have wrist bands on too but not sure they helped.

Hi Doone,

I had my first FEC on 3rd July and felt sick constantly for 4 days - hope its the same for you. Water is a definate yes, also snacking can ease the sick feeling. I just tried tea and biscuits or bananas, ice lolloes were good too.

Hope it helps. I had 2nd FEC yesterday and happy to say this time much better than last one - very tired but not feeling as sick this time

Hang in there

Love Hayley x

HI Chebsy and Hayley. Thanks a lot for the tips. Very good ideas, and yes, I’ll join in on the having chemo around 15th thread. It is very helpful, as you say, to chat to others in same boat.

Hi
I finished 6x FEC in february and used every type of anti nausea going. I did use the wrist bands, which I had used when pregnant, and found they helped but not on their own. There are so many anti-emetics on the market and not all work for everyone so it is worth trying different ones to see if they work for you. My GP (fantastic man!!) wrote me up for every one available so I could try different ones if the ones the hospital gave me didn’t work. The other thing you could try is concentrated ginger capsules (Hoffells is the best brand)
Good luck

Hi Doone,

I got some ‘travel bands’ from Boots before I started my chemo last year. Personally I found them to be an absolute godsend! I know they don’t work for all but they did for me and were so fantastic that I used to take them everywhere with me, just in case. I also wore them at night when needed, it was a welcome change from having to take medication for nausea!

Take care and I wish you well as you continue your treatment,

Hi Doone

Ive just had two cycles of FEC and have been sick with both. The second time I thought Id try the sea bands and positive thinking. Definately didnt work for me and I was sick as a dog and ended up on a drip in A&E! The nurses certainly looked after me though and I liked it better being in hospital on a drip for antisickness. Did the trick for me. Im hoping to try a different antisickness drug next time. Anything is worth a try. Everyone is different and I would give the sea bands a go and see if they work for you.

Take care and good luck

just wanted to add my comments. I ’ on TAC regime and about to have my 4th session out of six. The first 2 I used the wrist bands and only felt a bit nauseous. The 3rd time I forgot about the bands and I was ill! So I will definately be wearing them next time.Even if they are not helping physically, mentally it’s doing something??

good luck Jennie x

Hi Doone

Have you talked to your breast care nurse about your nausea? You may find a different medication can help. Just a thought.

Best wishes
