Hi all
My hands were getting sore this weekend and the feet were starting to flake so Saturday I started with the vaseline and thank you Barton it worked my hands and feet are so much better in 2 days. During the day I wear latex gloves to chop veg and jobs that need more finger control. OH has lovely smooth hands I cannot lift my right foot so he needs to help me to rub the creams into the foot. He loves to play his guitar and says his fingers have gone soft. I am so pleased he is taking care of my feet even though he is so bossy he insists me getting them done twice a day.
I hope you are all doing ok love to all xxx
Hi Barton,
My mouth has almost fully recovered during my week off. I will start the latest cycle this evening. Hope the stomach pains aren’t too bad this cycle. I was prescribed Ondansetron (zofran) which is an anti emetic but when I take it regularly it does seem to prevent most of my tummy related s/es.
Marirose, sounds like vaseline is doing the trick for you. Great when simple, cheap remedies are effective.Hope everything continues to go well for you this cycle.
Best wishes to all Cape ladies xxx
Hi cape friends…hope you are all faring well.
Marierose…i’m still here!! seem to be flitting in and oit of different posts but will still se our ‘skinny’ thread as the main one.
Barton thanks for the tip on vaseline…i have been prescribed Pliazon cream but vaseline sounds a good alternative if you cant get anything prescribed.
Back at hospital tomorrow for 4th cycle of cape all being well…not convinced its doing much but i dont think things have got much worse so i suppose thats good. I went for pre op tests yesterday which i think are all ok so hopefully will be having eletrochemo next month…good thing is i only have to come off cape for 5 days before and 5 after…i was getting woried about being on nothing for 4 weeks as previously told. Will still have to face that one if and when igo onto the trial.
Se’s on cape still not too bad…red hands and feet and my fingers look like i’ve had a long hot bath…oh how i wish!!!

HIYA Barton
What terrible news you are having. Im here in Exeter although I cant drive or move much but if you need anything contact me and I will try to help.
Last November just before I went into hospital for my op ( having a pin put in femur) I sneezed and gosh did I pull a muscle or something and it took 2 weeks to clear up when I didnt need anything else hurting !!! In the space of that week I pulled that muscle , had the op , had two big back teeth out and radiotherapy BUT got there in the end …

Hi Barton.sorry to hear your news.i hope you have an oncology appt arranged.take care .Sharon.x
Dear Barton
I have not had chance to read the posts and I was so upset to hear your dilema you really have and are going through it.I do hope they sort you out. Thank goodness you have a good and kind sister it must feel so good when they step in to help.
Also Carolyn how nice of you to offer yourself to help it is such a nice generous thing to do. You are one in a million.
Hello Louis your sore mouth mouth washes without alcohol are the ones to use but if you can ask your onc to prescribe gelclair which aids healing in the mouth. But when I had a really bad sore throat my dentist told me to see my doctor and ask for tablets to cure acid reflux which was causing the sore mouth and ulcers. As far as your hands and feet I have bought Udderley smooth Euricin cream used Diprobase and E45 but what helped me most within a couple of days was vaseline as recommended by Barton. Coat your feet and hands at night with vaseline and wear cotton socks and gloves. I put on my feet in the morning before putting socks on and use it on my hands during the day along with hand cream but not quite as thick but very often. I don’t work myself but I know alot of ladies still manage to continue working I am sure they will share their experiences with you. Best of luck.
P.S love the peach soldiers fighting the secondary’s
Hope Stresshead and Waffles are ok I am counting down now 4 1/2 days to free week peachy tabs disappearing and I feel quite good for 5th cycle.
Love to you all xxx
Oh Waffles
My finger prints went early days when i said they were like frogs ???hands It made me laugh to read your post shall we all do a bank raid.
xxx
Mmm, good idea Marirose. No-one would suspect us but to be truthful I think some of us might struggle with the quick getaway. ?
hiya Wafffles and Marirose …laughing at the thought of you two doing a bank raid ,if it helps I have a wheelchair, zimmer frame and a high toilet seat on wheels in the garage for your quick getaway and they cant be traced !!!

Hiya Barton
Sisters are wonderful rare people and mine is my best friend as well and I love her to bits. She has been so supportive to me recently although she does not live in Exeter and when I had my chemo back in 2004 she came with me for everyone of them and fed me treats to take my mind off that horrid stuff being pumped into my vains. I still cant bear bright yellow (and feel sick ) as that was the main colour of one of the chemos !!
I was looking at private messaging you as I could give you my address and phone number if you do need any help or someone to talk to.

HI Carolyn, don’t know about Marirose but the high toilet seat on wheels would be my vehicle of choice. ? xxx
Ha ha Waffles.Toilet seat has only had one careful owner for 6 weeks so definately the transport you would be needing !!!
Marirose . Im afraid that only leaves the wheelchair or zimmer frame but Im sure you already own these but mine are available for the bank raid if needed.

Hi Carolyn,
You’re crazy! (in a good way) ???xxx
Hi all,
Meant to say when I went to my appointment last week onc mentioned that my white blood count was a bit low but luckily not drastically so. Has anyone else had this issue on Cape and, if so, how was it dealt with?
Best wishes xxx
Hi everyone, just started capecitabine Friday after progression in liver. Had docetaxol, herceptin and Pertuzamab, docetaxol strung the tumour by half but herceptin and Pertuzamab didn’t work for me. Only had a scan December and was told all stable but then felt really unwell after Christmas rescanned and now more progression really really scared. How is capecitabine ? x
Hi Bellabean
I’m on my fourth cycle and I’ve not had any side effects that I couldn’t cope with… During the first cycle I was troubled by nausea but that may be because I was taking the pills with food insead of 20 mins after which definitely helps for me. I also take ondansetron anti sickness pill which are very effective. I also have to take movicol/laxido for constipation as Cape definitely makes that worse for me. My WBC is on a downward slide, but hoping it won’t get too low. I think the most common s/e is sore hands and feet. I’m only troubled by dry skin there so not really much of an issue yet but I think it tends to get worse with time.
Definitely best to use moisturiser on feet to prevent this. I use Eucerin but others have mentioned Udderley and also Vaseline.
Last month I had a bit of a sore mouth but that cleared up on my free week when I used alcohol free mouth wash.
I’d say generally Cape is much easier to cope with than IV chemos. It should also allow your hair to grow back if you have lost it.
Like you, I had sudden progression in bones and into liver in December which was really scary but rads have helped bone and my pain is much better now. I seem to find if I can control the pain I cope much better mentally with anything. Due to be scanned again soon so not looking forward to that but definitely feel much better than I did before Cape- so who knows!
The ladies on this thread are very helpful and supportive so keep posting.
Best wishes xxx
Hi cape ladies.I took cape for 15months.i had a few hiccups to start they reduced my dose.after that I felt really well and did normal things.plenty moisturizer on feet hands.and alcohol free mouth was and oral b toothpaste.as I had couple mouth infections…no veins to find bonus…i did not suffer with feet.but some people do …i found it easier than iv…unfortunately got taken off it because markers went up .but it was a good treatment.xx
Hello Bellabean
Welcome to our thread as Waffle and Barton have said we have have lots of ladies with good advice and this chemo is doable.
I am now towards the end of my 5th cycle before going into my free week. I look forward to the free weeks mainly because I don’t have to take the tablets which I find I am always timeing the 10-12 hrs between taking them. But I must admit this treatment makes me feel healther. I have had a scan which showed bones healing and everything else stable so long may it rein.
I found reading the back posts on this thread very helpful Barton is a great help.
Best of luck keep posting xxx
Hello to fellow capies xxx
Thank you everyone for making me welcome. I have the tablets at 8 in a morning which is fine as I have breakfast then at 8 at night but I really struggle to get a sandwich down me. Can you just eat a couple of biscuits or does it have to be something better xx
Hi Bellabean,
I take mine at about 8 am and then anytime between 6 and 8pm in the evening. The chemo nurses recommended that to me. I have a hiatus hernia so I am prone to all kinds of stomach issues and I definitely have to have more than a few biscuits before my pills. However, if your stomach is stronger then biscuits might be enough.
Best wishes everyone xxx
