hi , just got my markers back after a couple if rounds of xeloda alone and they are 35 , they were 30 before this twice . i am wondering wether its because i am now on xeloda alone and not the two ? i know its not a big jump but when my markers are very reliable for me and this is what happened whren i was on aromasin before they started climbing and reached 1300 . any insight?

Hi Tracy
Like Kate, I don’t have my markers checked either only my LFT’s so can’t help you either. There must be someone out there on this forum who does??

Hi Tracy, yes I have markers too. Your onc will be looking for a trend, if after a few months your markers are steadily rising…I know how markers can make you feel anxious…I’ve had a 10 point jump…I think Aromasin isn’t working. 35 is good though!! Belinda…x
The difference between 35 and 30 is probably neglidgable if not within the margins of error from the lab analysis.
As far as I was aware markers make no differentiation between ‘live’ and dead cells so counts can vary wildly when changing or modifying treatments.
My wifes onc only uses markers as a tool to indicate a trend over a period of 3 or 4 results and pays little attention to the actual values unless they jump markedly.
Best wishes Dave
Hi Tracy
My onc interprets the markers in the same way that Dave has described. A difference of 5 is not significant in itself but if the next measurement is 40 and the one after that 45 then it might be. Similarly, a big jump from one measurement to another would be significant but it would have to be a really big jump - mine went from 30 to 140+, when they had hovered around the 30 mark for several years.
Hope that helps
