Well good luck to you. What type are you having? - I had LD at the same time as my mastectomy as I didn’t like the thought of 2 ops!
Im having a Tram, I had my mastectomy in Jan 2006. Because of all the rads, chemo etc they decided not to go for recon at that time

I’ve just got my date through for same op - 24th Sept - in Leicester. Llike you I couldn’t have recon at time of my mastectomy in June 06 because of rads and chemo. Despite the nerves am so looking forward to having another boob again at last and am planning a party in New Year to say yaboo to cancer…!

I am due to see Mr Smith at Lri on sept 24th to discuss ld recon, had mastectomy jan 07 and chemo then rads. Would really really appreciate hearing how your op goes as its at the same hospital i would have mine. Which surgeon are you haveing do your op?

I see you have an op in Leicester on 24th Sept. I was there last Wednesday and I am to have breast reduction on my other breast before Christmas followed by recon next year. If you have any advice for me please feel free to pass it on. Good luck and best wishes for the 24th.

I will certainly keep you posted on the Op. I am having Mr Varma do my op - I saw him for the original consultation and he is really nice. Am pleased he is doing it. Lynda - I also had a breast reduction first, back in Feb this year. Can’t honestly remember name of surgeon, not Mr Varma, but youngish and very nice. I was/am very pleased with the results. It was quite straightforward, was just in one night and back at work a couple of weeks after. Very little discomfort all in all and of course fully recovered from that now.
Am due to have the pre-op for the recon on 11th September and will get to see the unit then and hopefully meet a patient who has just had the op. Will post back on here after that with any advice gleaned. Wish me luck! Oh by the way, have you both got a copy of the DVD the LRI produce on reconstruction? If not, do ask for one - its very informative.

Good luck with the op,I have been in St Johns but for Orthopaedic surgery,hopefully they won’t be using drills and screws in your surgery LOL!
Its a nice modern hospital and the food wasn’t too bad!
I am a Mr C patient too but fortunately I had my recon at the same time as my mastectomy on 23 July.I had the LD flap but a flat tummy would have been nice!
To have that would have meant a delay and I couldn’t handle that.
Quite happy now it is settling down,or should I say settling in!

I had a delayed diep recon last october. I was really nervous before but also really excited. Just do everything they tell you afterwards. I’m really pleased I had it done.

Thanks so much, you have made me feel so much better. After seeing Mr. Varma (yes he’s lovely!) in Leicester last week I got a bad attack of cold feet. I was worried about having more time off work - felt really guilty. However there’s nothing I can do about it, if I want reconstruction (and I do), the reduction has got to be done.
