Younger Women's Forum - Bournemouth 28/29 January 2011

Hi

We still have availability for the Younger Women’s Forum in Bournemouth on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 January 2011.

Would you like to meet up with other younger women to share your experiences, get your questions answered about the medical management of breast cancer in younger women, find out how healthy eating and exercise can benefit you and join the moving forward workshops.

Breast Cancer Care’s Younger Women’s Forums are designed to do all these things and much more! Forums are open to anyone aged 20-45 who has been diagnosed with primary breast cancer within the last three years. The two-day programme of talks, workshops and social time, including all meals and accommodation, is completely free of charge.

To find out more or to request a booking form please call us on 0845 077 1893 or email <script type=“text/javascript”>eval(unescape(‘%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%79%6f%75%6e%67%65%72%77%6f%6d%65%6e%40%62%72%65%61%73%74%63%61%6e%63%65%72%63%61%72%65%2e%6f%72%67%2e%75%6b%22%3e%79%6f%75%6e%67%65%72%77%6f%6d%65%6e%40%62%72%65%61%73%74%63%61%6e%63%65%72%63%61%72%65%2e%6f%72%67%2e%75%6b%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b’))</script>

So when is there going to be free events for those with bc too old to go on this, who are not of an age to receive routine screening, who still have babies and young children at home and are not menopausal?..hmmm?

Hello lostinfrance

I have attached a link to a map of BCC services, I hope this helps.http://maps.breastcancercare.org.uk/

Thanks

June…that does not answer my questions and also does not actually help!

Hi lostinfrance

Sorry my post was not helpful to you. I have referred your post to the appropriate team who will respond as soon as possible.

Many thanks
June

Thank you June. It’s not just Lif, there are quite a few of us who are older than 45 but who are still pre-menopausal and have children of assorted ages, many of them under 10, and the doctors sometimes don’t know whether to treat us as old’uns or young’uns. We also have the life challenges that younger women have so something that included us older young’uns would be really welcome, and I’m sure would be very well attended.

If your teams could have a think about us as a group as well, it would be very welcome.

Thanks CM you said it much better than me! I had 2 kids in their 20s when in my early 40s and when my youngest was born my oldest was nearly 21. Others are only starting their families in their 40s these days!
younger women are my daughters ages…one is being treated for bc diagnosed at 26 the other is under investigation. The group 35-55 is a group where many still have young kids and as said are starting families still, sometimes for a second time. IVF is acceptable right up to the menopause so for some thats well over 50…
some folks in their early 40s are grandparents…
This is a very under thought out area!
Also routine testing is not available in our area til past 51…again food for thought.

Issues that affect the very young woman, the inbetweener and the older woman are overlapping but often quite specific and referring folks to bcc services is problematic…and moreso for those of us living in the west country where services are either non existant or hundreds of miles away!

I’ve spoken to the Breast Cancer Care services team, and here is a message from them:

We have been having discussions about the issues you raise here (and on the “inbetweeners” thread) and we would very much like to take them into account when planning our future services.

In the meantime, some of these events might be of interest:

As well as our other services such as the live chat sessions, helpline, and one to one support.

If you would like to find out more about the events and services in your area, please call the Breast Cancer Care helpline.

Finally, thanks for raising these issues with us. It is really helpful to hear your views so we can plan appropriate services. We plan our services very carefully, taking many different factors into account. When we plan new services, we often consult our Breast Cancer Voices group, which is a large group of people affected by breast cancer who bring their experience and expertise to shape different aspects of the work we do. We would encourage you to join Breast Cancer Voices so that you can be part of developing services in the future breastcancercare.org.uk/get-involved/breast-cancer-voices/

with best wishes
