ZICE trial

ZICE trial

ZICE trial Hi looking for anyone on the ZICE trial. My partner just been diag with bone mets (though we know that they have been around since at least Oct 06). She is about to start on the Zolend. IV arm of the trial any info greatly appreciated.

I’m on ZICE I’ve been on the IV arm (zaledronic acid/zometa) of the ZICE trial since Sep 06 so not long really but my bony mets are already showing signs of healing so really pleased. I felt a bit fluey the first evening but just very slightly and since then no probs at all. It is only a 15 min infusion and even in my pathetic veins it is no problem.
You also get given calcium tablets to chew which are a lemony flavour - I love them but some people hate the taste!!
Zaledronic acid has been around for quite a number of years now (way before 2006) and is considered the ‘gold standard’ but is expensive hence that is why they are doing the trial to see if oral biphosphonates are as effective as IV ones.
Hope that helps
Kate

Thanks Kate glad you’re having success with this treatment. Its reassuring to know that you are having no probs with the IV as my partner is worried about her knackered veins, she was disappointed not to have the tabs because of that, but i find it reassuring that she is getting the best available treatment. Thanks for the heads up about the calcium tabs, though I am sure she won’t be bothered by the lemony flavour.

Best wishes
